BCC Rides the Tour
de Froth On Saturday May 22, instead of the regular Club ride, we
will be joining BCC member, Dave Benson, on the Tour de Froth bike ride.
It is an informal and uninsured ride with two SAG trucks for support. Don't be
confused by the joking, tongue-in-cheek tone of the site. There is no required entry fee, but donations
will be accepted for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Enjoy a day in the saddle
with some of your riding friends touring the foothills west of Loveland. The ride starts
in Berthoud traveling north to Masonville and returning through Carter Lake
with a post ride party in Berthoud. It is one of the most beautiful rides in
the West. The route is approximately 50 miles with many opportunities to either
shorten the route or eliminate some of the climbs for those who want a less
demanding route.
Start time: 8 am
Start location: From Longmont
travel about nine miles north on Route 287 to Berthoud. Turn right on to Route 56
east and travel about 1.5 miles to Route 17 (the first stop light). Turn right
(south) on Route 17 and travel about one mile to Spartan Ave. Turn left onto Spartan Ave. and
the high school will be ahead on your left. We will park behind the high school
building. Route: See MAPMYRIDE with one change - we will turn around at Masonville, eliminating the Horsetooth
leg.

Denver Launches
Bike Share
Check out the article about the new Denver Bike-Share program that was rolled out on Earth Day. The concept,
which is based on programs in use in Paris and Montreal, allows anyone to
purchase a membership and check out a bike for a fee. Boulder is developing its own program, so
please express your support to your city council representative.

150 Years of Gears Exhibit
T his new exhibit of cycling history is showing at the Longmont Museum
and Cultural Center through July 3. It features bikes
like the one Andy Hampsten rode in the 1988 Giro d'Italia in which he became
the first American cyclist ever to win. In addition, much older bikes dating
back to the 1860's will be on display. For more information, go to the Longmont Museum site. It has
been suggested that we could stop there on a Saturday ride. Does anyone want to
plan that route?

Rides
This Week
 Week
of May 2 Always check the BCC calendar before you go and the Ride Cancellation Policy
if the weather is questionable.
The
spring weather has been really varied, so
remember that there is no official groupride if the road is wet, the Accuweather.comRealFeel temperature is 35 degrees or
less, or wind gusts of over 50 mph are forecast. Those willing to brave the
elements and attendant risks can still go and ride with whoever shows up. Weeknight rides all leave at 5:30 pm, and the
Saturday ride leaves at 10 am.
Tuesday Boulder Beer Ride (Road
Bike), 5:30pm - This week we ride to Eldorado
Canyon, taking Cherryvale to Marshall. We will try a
change from our normal route. From Table Mesa, we will take 38th street
to Moorehead and
then left to catch the path to go through the tunnel under 36. This will
eliminate a section of bike path that is narrow and has a lot of
pedestrian
traffic. This ride always starts at Boulder Beer (2880 Wilderness Place,
Boulder). Our members love the patio behind
the Pub, and there is almost always room for a big table. Members who
stay for
drinks enjoy happy hour prices and discounts on food Note: High winds
are forecast for tonight, so there is a good chance of
cancellation..
Thursday Ride
(Road Bike), 5:30 pm -
We will be leaving from
Murphy's Grill in South Boulder and doing the Marshall/McCaslin/128 backtrack route. This is up to 29
miles depending on where the groups decide to turn around. The scenery is
beautiful with green rolling hills and a great view of the Front
Range. Blustery weather is forecast that day so the route will be
determined by the weather. This ride rotates between three departure points: 1) Bácaro, 921 Pearl; 2) Murphy's (Table Mesa Shopping Center); or 3) 4580 Restaurant,
4580 Broadway (NoBo). Members who stay for drinks enjoy happy hour prices,
great small plates, and other food. ng Center); or 3) 4580 Restaurant,
4580 Broadway (NoBo).
Saturday Ride
(Road Bike), 10 am -The Saturday morning ride will meet at 10:00 am at Amante
and head up Left Hand Canyon. This departure time will be earlier when (if?)
the weather warms up. Always check the calendar before you go.
This ride usually starts from Amante Coffee, 4580 Broadway in Boulder (NoBo). Show up
half an hour early for some coffee with other members. After the ride, members
often grab a bite at Proto's Pizzeria Napolitano, one block north of Amante.
