Our Efforts to Make County Roads Safer Are Succeeding!
| |
Last fall, we began an initiative to persuade Boulder County
to undertake a motorist/cyclist road safety education outreach aimed at the
rural areas where we ride. We refined our campaign at an Alliance for Biking and
Walking cycling advocacy campaign training in October. We participated in
the Canyons Working Group sponsored by the Boulder County Department of
Transportation (BCDT) and the Sheriff's Department. We persistently advocated for a road safety
education outreach in addition to infrastructure improvements. Our
efforts have met with initial success with the County committing to important
cycling infrastructure changes in the Canyons and to develop a roadway safety
education campaign with an initial budget of $5,000 for out-of-pocket expenses
plus in-house County resources.
The plan adopted by the Canyons Working Group is being finalized and will be
released soon. Although the infrastructure improvements have been planned
in detail, there is much still to be done on the outreach component of the plan
since this requires input from the County Public Information and Media Office
and outside marketing professionals. Our
Advocacy Committee will represent the BCC on the Education and Outreach Sub-Group
aimed at developing and implementing the safety outreach campaign.

Update on Kelsey
|
|

Club member and ride leader Steve Crider's daughter appears to be
"all clear" on her third kidney transplant, having gone through the
process July 24 at Mayo Clinic in MN. She had two previous transplants
that failed because of donor rejection issues, the 3rd being the
"charm" so to speak. Mayo Clinic just completed a 4-month
checkup and biopsy and found no signs of rejection.
Her living donor was
Kaye Basedow of Broomfield,
who did not know Kelsey and read about her in the Daily Camera. If you or
anyone you know has interest in becoming a living donor or just the process here is a great website. You can also contact Steve at rockymtngatr@yahoo.com for more information
Congrats to Kelsey and Steve on a successful outcome!
