September Thoughts

Hi Everybody,

I had the pleasure to both ride in and participate in the Buffalo Classic Bike Ride last Sunday . It was a beautiful day for riding, one of those perfect Colorado days. Close to 2500 cyclists participated and rode in various rides from the 100 mile Century to the 14 mile Little Buff ride for the kids. It was a very well organized event with great support and a good selection of food and drink at the aid stations. I made the 70 mile course up to Carter Lake (a personal record for me!) and lots of our members participated. Click here for photos.

I especially want to thank our volunteers Carolyn Larson and Karin Wilson for both setting up our promo booth and tent and working it so that I could actually ride ! I think they both had a great time and sold a bunch of bells donated by Barry Schacht to help us raise money for the club, but most importantly promoted the club and gathered a lot of emails from cyclists showing and interest in the club. It was a real cycling carnival atmosphere with free massages, food, beer (thanks to our cycling buddy Jeff Brown of Boulder Beer!). I think everyone had a great time and they raise a lot of money for scholarships for CU students. We want to thank the good folks at the CU Buff Classic for letting us set up and promote the club at the event. I look forward to riding/participating in it next year and I hope to complete the 100 mile Century ride next year!

I'd like to welcome all the cyclists that signed up for our newsletter at the Buff Classic. We hope to see you on a ride or at one of our upcoming events in the future.

Please note that we are starting earlier this week because of the shorten riding time due to lack of daylight.
All rides will meet at 5:15 and leave no later the 5:30 except the Sat ride at Bicycle Village which will continue to meet at 9:15 am on Sat and leave at 9:30 am. Unless the weather is bad then the outdoor ride is cancelled and a free Spinning class will be offered at the Y at 10:30 am.
For a complete look at this week's ride schedule click here.

Herschel from the Mountain Bike Alliance sent me there newsletter of news and upcoming events. This is a terrific nonprofit going great things for the cycling community in Boulder. Click here for more info.

The days are shortening so get out there and take advantage of this great September riding weather!

This is an intermediate road bike ride at a 15-18 mph pace.  The pace is fast enough for exercise, but shouldn't make you keel over!  The objective is a good work out and to build camaraderie.  Approximate distance is 25-30 miles.  We'll return to the Boulder Brewery by 8:00 PM.
