From the Prez:
Remember Bike to Work Day is Wed June 25! The amount of folks in
Boulder who already bike to work on a daily basis is really amazing, but
on Bike to Work Day literally thousands of people take to their bikes
and cruise to work. There will be breakfast stations all around town as
a special treat for all those participating. I have personally
volunteered on the Bike to Work Committee and can vouch for how hard
the organizers work to make this not just a day event, but a whole month
long celebration here in one of the cycling
Meccas of the country! For more info click here and I'll see you out there! We roll out a new ride this week, one for the ladies! Michelle will be leading a Ladies' Only Mountain Bike Ride starting this Friday, see below for details Watch the calendar for more of this type of ride in July! On
the safety front the Camera ran an article about how the fatal crash of
the cyclist on highway 38 and the Broadway intersection has prompted
calls for changes. Some of the ideas are a traffic light, underpass or
overpass. Remember that until something changes this is a very dangerous
intersection and one should be extremely careful when you are crossing. See the City's traffic safety tips for more info on safety on the bike. Training rides for the Tour De Cure American Diabetes fundraiser in August are starting. Ladies' Night Mountain Biking
|
|
Starting this Friday!
Friday night is Ladies' Night for mountain biking! Join us this
Friday, June 27, to kick off a weekly, women's only mountain bike
ride. This is a safe, supportive and non competitive group of varying
ages and skill levels. These are no drop rides - no girls get left
behind! Rides will range from beginner to intermediate levels of
difficulty. This first ride will meet at the Boulder Valley Ranch trailhead at 6pm. Ride out to the Rez, around it, and back. The ride is easy, approximately 10 miles round trip, mostly on double track and dirt road. (Boulder Valley Ranch is 1 mile north of Boulder, on Longhorn Rd, east of Hwy 36.) Blue River Century
|
|
What
did you do last Saturday?
I spent the day up in Summit County
volunteering for the Blue River Century a charity 100 mile ride
benefiting the Lance Armstrong Foundation! It was a beautiful day in the mountains and I was surprised to see so much snow still on the mountain tops ( see the photo's). Club Member Marie
did a great job of organizing this event and for the first year she got
over 100 people to participate so I think she deserves a major
congratulation for a job well done! I found out how much work goes on to organize, promote and staff such an event especially all the way up in Keystone. The
club looks forward to helping support and sponsor the yearly ride in
the future and we are excited to watch it grow and prosper..
The most important aspect of the event was how struck I was by the
people participating in the ride. Everyone either had gone through an
episode with cancer, or knew some one that had cancer some survived and
some did not. What they seemed to emphasize though, was that they
realized how important it is to live for the moment and to enjoy life
now! I can not think of a healthier way to celebrate life then to ride
your bike to raise money for a good cause and to be able to ride in one
of the most beautiful settings in America. It made me feel good to help
in even a little way and to be a part of such an inspiring event!
