Quote of the Month
"Angels in the early morning May be seen the dews among, Stooping, plucking, smiling, flying: Do the buds to them belong? Angels when the sun is hottest. May be seen the sands among, Stooping, plucking, sighing, flying; Parched the flowers they bear along."
-Emily Dickinson When Emily died at age 56, her nearly 2000 poems were unknown except to a few friends and relatives.

Laura's List Embraces Nature and Harmonious Living
My grandmother used to say, "that which we tend with love and care will surely blossom." As an avid gardener, there are times when I seek refuge and solitude in my garden; I embrace Mother Earth and throw my worries away to the wind.
I recently traveled to the New York Botanical Garden (in Bronx, NY) where roses were in full bloom. Amidst the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden, with over 4,000 roses and more than 680 varieties, one of the most beautiful rose gardens I've ever seen; I realized how we as women can cultivate our own beauty, each of us uniquely defined by our spirit and that which we tend to in ourselves can flourish. I invite you to stop 'n' smell the roses in your life! Inhale the beauty of a flowering plant, pause to see the sunset, meditate for a few moments in nature.
Women are cultivators because we have the power to plant seeds of hope for ourselves and others. --Laura Ponticello Laura's List: Books for Women Sowing Seeds of Hope- The Bridge that Connects Women www.laurasbooklist.com

Summer Book Lovers....
Georgia Bottoms
by Mark Childress For those of you who love a southern fried novel, this book is hilarious. Publishers Weekly shares "Sassy Southern belle Georgia has a lot of secrets: a rotation of gentleman callers with unique sexual needs, a mother with a tenuous hold on reality, and a lucrative (if dodgy) business of selling at a huge mark-up the folk art quilts she buys and passes off as her own creations. But then 9/11 comes along, Georgia's world of naughty innocence is changed forever, and all the plates she once spun so effortlessly in midair come crashing down: her illegitimate black son shows up on her doorstep; her best friend and town mayor, Krystal, loses her job; her demented mom and drunken brother become increasingly errant; and one of her boyfriends-a spiteful preacher-has an unfortunate attack of conscience and intends to publicly confess his affair and simultaneously condemn poor Georgia to hell. Childress (One Mississippi) is sassy magnolia lit's Truman Capote-sharply observant, unrelentingly honest, and downright hilarious-and his Georgia peach is the freshest bad girl to rise from the South since Scarlett O'Hara." The Help
by Katherine Stockett
Three ordinary women are about to take one extraordinary step. Twenty-two-year-old Skeeter has just returned home after graduating from Ole Miss. She may have a degree, but it is 1962, Mississippi and her mother will not be happy till Skeeter has a ring on her finger. Skeeter would normally find solace with her beloved maid Constantine, the woman who raised her, but Constantine has disappeared and no one will tell Skeeter where she has gone.Women, Food and God: An Unexpected Path to Almost Everything by Geneen Roth
Geneen begins this book with her most basic concept: The way you eat is inseparable from your core beliefs about being alive. Your relationship with food is an exact mirror of your feelings about love, fear, anger, meaning, transformation and, yes, even God. Geneen Roth is the author of eight books, including the New York Times bestselling When Food is Love, and The Craggy Hole in My Heart And The Cat Who Fixed It, A Memoir. She has been teaching groundbreaking workshops and retreats for over thirty years. Roth is a contributor to many publications from Huffington Post and Good Housekeeping to O:The Oprah Magazine, and has appeared on numerous national shows including Oprah, 20/20, Good Morning America, The View and NPR's Talk of the Nation. She lives in northern California with her husband. |
