MCAG AND LU 72 WELL REPRESENTED AT NATIONAL CERTIFIED PIPE WELDING BUREAU MEETING IN KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C.

MCAG and LU 72 were well represented at the recent meeting of the National Certified Pipe Welding Bureau at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in Kiawah Island, S.C.

The Technical Committee met April 11-13. Following the Technical Committee meeting, the Board of Trustees met on April 14, focusing on how to help local chapters while at the same time challenging them to increase membership.

Highlights of the meeting included a presentation by Cajun Seeger. In his presentation, Cajun discussed how the UA NCPWP joint welder certification program works. He reviewed the sequence of a joint test event and also demonstrated an actual set-up of a test coupon. He also discussed the ATR and contractor representative's role during a test event.

New at this year's meeting was a roundtable discussion. The discussion focused on a variety of topics, including ways to maximize NCPWB membership.

During the meeting, Stinson Batchelor of K&B Mechanical Contractors was relected to the Board of Trustees for another three-year term.

"FINANCIAL AND SALES MANAGEMENT" IN THE SPOTLIGHT AT MIC MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP

"Financial and Sales Management" was the topic at the recent MIC Management Workshop held in Atlanta.

Presenter for the workshop was David Ashcraft, at right, of Business Resource Services in Seattle, Wash. David specializes in the training areas of financial and sales management.

The workshop covered a variety of topics, including the following:

* What financial statements can really tell you about the health and bankability of your business
* How to cut costs with a scalpel rather than a hatchet to meet a targeted profit
* How to use a diagnostic road map to identify potential causes of financial problems
* How to use financial analysis to uncover opportunities to increase cash flow and profits
* How to use break-even analysis to control costs, determine appropriate pricing strategies and make better purchasing decisions.
MCAG MAY MEMBERSHIP MEETING LOOKS AT "FUTURE OF GEORGIA AND THE KEY TO THE STATE'S SUCCESS"

MCAG's May membership meeting took a look at the "Future of Georgia and the Key to the State's Success" though the eyes of special guest speaker Mike Kenn.

Most know Mike as the former Atlanta Falcon star and former president of the NFL Players Association. He spent 17 years as an NFL offensive lineman. He has been nominated to the NFL Hall of Fame three times.

Mike also served for five years as chairman of the Fulton County Commission. While presiding over Fulton County's government, he was an advocate for smaller government, less taxes and more efficient use of taxpayer's money.

He has earned a reputation for being a leader in trying to find effective solutions to metro Atlanta's traffic crisis, which led him to his present role as president of Georgians for Better Transportation.
SPECIAL LU 72 PROGRAM SPOTLIGHTS
 PLUMBING SERVICE

A special program held recently at the Welding Technology Center in Lithia Springs spotlighted plumbing service and the opportunities that it offers.

With the United Assocication's (UA) assistance, local plumbers and pipe fitters unions in other areas across the country are providing contractors with assistance in setting up what can be very successful and profitable residential and small business plumbing service and repair companies.  LU 72 spondored this program to assist signatory contractors in expanding their markets by meeting local residential and small business plumbing needs.

The program was presented by Bob Melko, owner of Bishop Plumbing of Chicago. Melko discussed the success of his firm and answered questions.
