Dirks-Bihun Invited to Speak on Immigration
Assistant Professor of Social Work April Dirks-Bihun was invited to present on the topic of Latinos and new immigration issues to a group of concerned citizens at the Unitarian Church in Iowa City on December 16. A survivor of the 2008 Postville immigration raid was invited to the event and shared her story during the presentation. The lecture was part of a human rights forum hoping to increase awareness of undocumented immigrants living in our communities.

Chaichian Presents at Academic Summit
Professor of Sociology Mohammad Chaichian presented at The Future of Ethnic Studies: An Academic Summit at Iowa State University on February 25. His presentation was titled, "The Continued Significance of Ethnic Studies Programs in the Context of a Globalized Political Economy."

Clark-Bridges Elected to National Library Advisory Board
Evening Supervisor and Interlibrary Loan Associate Robyn Clark-Bridges has accepted a three-year appointment to serve on Wartburg College's National Library Advisory Board, where she will help guide library policies, direction, and curriculum.

Tyx Publishes Poem
Associate Professor of English Carol Tyx had a poem, "Learning God Like Spanish" accepted into the Spring 2011 issue of the literary journal Tenth Muse.

Chrisman Presents at Leadership Conference
Coordinator of Leadership Programs Mindy Chrisman '05 and students Bethany Carney, Olivia Hemmer, and Amanda Stahley from the STEPS leadership program have been invited to present at the IUGO Leadership Conference on March 26. Their presentation is titled "Balance - It's Not Just for Gymnasts Anymore."

Women's Leadership Conference

The Iowa Network for Women in Higher Education is sponsoring a Women's Leadership Conference at the University of Northern Iowa on April 15. The conference will include interactive and activity-based sessions where participants can engage in self-reflection about their desired career path.
