Mount Mercy Names in the News
Mount Mercy students Kelsey Pestka and Abby Myers were featured in The Cedar Rapids Gazette on February 3 for being involved in snow day activities on the Mount Mercy campus when classes were canceled the first day of the Spring semester due to weather.
Associate professor of economics Ayman Amer was featured in The Cedar Rapids Gazette on February 5 for his speaking engagement at Kirkwood Community College during their special series on Understanding the Turmoil in Egypt. Amer was also a guest lecture on WMT 600 AM with hosts Ryan Schlader on February 7 and Andy Petersen on February 9. Amer was born in Cairo, and has several family members in Egypt.
Mount Mercy University Men's Basketball Player Chad Underwood was featured in The Cedar Rapids Gazette on February 6 for his 22-point contribution to the game against Ashford, where the Mustangs won and head basketball coach Paul Gavin saw his 300th win.
Coordinator of Recreation and Wellness Programs Brenda Steinke was featured in The Corridor Business Journal on February 7 regarding the healthy workplace environment at Mount Mercy. Steinke contributes to numerous health awareness campaigns on campus such as fitness classes, yoga and Weight Watchers at work, among many others initiatives.
Senior Lecturer of Art David Van Allen was featured as a guest on KCRG-TV9's morning show on Sunday, February 13. Van Allen highlighted the area college artwork exhibit at the Janalyn Hanson White Gallery.
Associate Professor of Criminal Justice Deb Brydon was invited to appear on KCRG-TV9's "Ethical Perspectives in the News" on February 13. Brydon was one of three panelists discussing politics and the Iowa judiciary, particularly the effect of the removal of three Iowa Supreme Court justices after the Court upheld gay marriage.
Assistant Professor of Business Tracy Tunwall was featured in The Corridor Business Journal on February 14 for being named chairperson at the Iowa Senior Human Resources Association.
Tunwall was also featured on WMT 600 AM on February 24 regarding a webinar series titled "The Value of a Veteran," which Tunwall is on the steering committee for. The series focuses on the business opportunity that exists in hiring veterans, and covers elements of the business side such as where to find veterans, translating the military resume, and how to retain veterans after they have been hired. The series is a collaborative effort between a number of area organizations.
