Associate Professor of Education Ellen O'Keefe presented two services for St. Pius teachers on September 15 and September 29. The first service covered strategies for teaching students with learning disabilities and the second service addressed strategies for teaching students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Associate Professors of Education Dawn Behan and Ellen O'Keefe accompanied two Mount Mercy graduate students as they spoke at the Iowa Learning Disabilities Association Conference on October 25. The students' session is titled, "Universal Design that Works."
Associate Professor of Art Kathryn Hagy recently had an article, titled "Role Playing the Cincinnati-Mapplethorpe Case in an Art Appreciation Course" accepted for publication in Volume 5 of the International Journal of the Arts in Society. She will also be lecturing on November 30 as part of an international conference in Kathmandu, Nepal on "The Glocalization of Art: Contemporary Art Practice." Glocalization is a combination of "global" and "local." Her paper will cover cross-fertilization between Eastern and Western art in the contemporary American art scene. The paper will be published in Nepal as part of the conference proceedings.
Evening Supervisor and Interlibrary Loan Associate Robyn Clark-Bridges represented the EQALU Board of Directors at the National Outdoor Ministry Conference in Newark, New Jersey throughout the first week in November.
Professor of Philosophy Joseph R. Givvin presented, "Film as Philosophical Text: Using the Films of Woody Allen to Teach Philosophy" at the 64th Annual RMMLA Convention on October 14 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Assistant Professor of Biology Alesia Hruska-Hageman and Assistant Professor of Mathematics Jitka Stehnova presented workshops at the "Open Minds, Open Doors Conference" at Coe College on October 21, where they organized workshops for 500 middle school girls. The conference encouraged the girls to enter into the career fields of science, technology, engineering, and math. Stehnova also presented at the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) conference on October 23 at Coe College.
Associate Professor of Accounting Steve Gilmour and Mount Mercy accounting students attended the 2010 Institute of Management Accountants Annual Student Night event on October 19 at Theatre Cedar Rapids. The event provided an opportunity for students to attend a professional organizational meeting, network with local accounting professionals and provided an opportunity to learn about the Institute of Management Accountants.
Professor of Sociology Mohammad Chaichian was invited to serve as a guest lecturer by the Unitarian Universalist Society of Iowa City on October 20 to help facilitate discussion as part of their program, "What You Have Never Heard About the Middle East." The topic of Chaichian's talk was "Real Iran: A Look beyond the Nuclear Weapons Fuss."

Mount Mercy University President Christopher Blake offered his gratitude after the University received $1.2 million from an anonymous donor. Associate Professor of Business Bob Walker was featured in The Corridor Business Journal on October 4 for his new book club initiative for Mount Mercy MBA graduates. "It came about during my discussion with students. When you're here as a student, you build a close relationship with the other students in the MBA program, and you hate to lose that network and those connections. Mount Mercy University was featured on KGAN on October 10 for serving as the site for the 2nd Congressional District debate between Democrat Dave Loebsack and Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks on October 12.
Mount Mercy University was featured on KGAN on October 11 for receiving a $1.2 million anonymous donation towards an endowed scholarship fund.
Head Men's Soccer Coach Amir Hadzic was interviewed on KGYM 1600 AM radio on October 27. Hadzic and hosts Scott Unash, Mark Dukes, and Brent Staab discussed one of the most successful soccer seasons in school history, as well as aspirations for the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament.
Associate Professor of Speech/Drama Kathi Pudzuvelis and junior Cody Bouwman were featured on KCCK 88.3 FM radio's "Culture Crawl" on October 29, where they discussed the fall play, Over the River and Through the Woods.
