AIDT supports Rainy Day Amendment to prevent cuts
|
AIDT encourages you to vote "Yes" on Tuesday, Nov. 4, to support the Rainy Day Amendment (Amendment No. 1) to protect the state's education budget which includes funding for AIDT, part of the Alabama Community College System.
A bipartisan measure overwhelmingly approved by the House and Senate earlier this year, the amendment also has Gov. Bob Riley's support. An unexpected drop in state revenues threatens severe cuts in the state Education Trust Fund. If passed, the amendment will allow the education budget to access savings set aside in state's $3.3 billion Alabama Trust Fund to protect Alabama investments and tremendous progress in education and workforce development.
The Rainy Day Amendment is not a tax increase. It is a constitutional amendment that utilizes savings, rather than tax increases, to make up budget shortfalls in the ETF and/or General Fund if proration is declared by the governor. Whatever savings are transferred to prevent cuts must be replenished within six to 10 years, as mandated by the constitution. The Rainy Day Amendment is a solution that will save jobs and allow services to continue through tough economic times, without raising taxes.
With your approval, funding will be available to allow AIDT to continue to provide quality workforce development for Alabama's new and existing businesses and to expand the opportunities of its citizens through the jobs these businesses create.
Vote YES Nov. 4 on the Rainy Day Amendment to prevent proration without raising taxes
