On The Job returns Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. after APT pledge programming. The
Alabama Educational Television Commission was established by the Alabama Legislature
in 1953. Alabama became the first state
in the nation with an educational television network.
Alabama Public
Television made its first broadcast as a network in April 1955.
Alabama Public Television was a model for other states in the nation
and for television broadcasters in other countries. Twenty-five other
states copied Alabama's system of operation to provide service through
multiple, linked television stations.

Alabama a leader in e-government
|
Alabama is the only state government honored by CIO Magazine as a leader in e-government in the magazine's annual CIO 100 list. The list honors the top 100 institutions that exemplify the highest level of excellence in information technology (IT).
Alabama deployed many systems to improve e-government
services delivered to citizens of Alabama in the areas of education,
business transactions and Alabama government operation.
The projects
implemented as part of Gov. Bob Riley's "Plan for Change" include GIS
technology for viewing a virtual Alabama and getting infrastructure
data in a visualization tool networking and video conferencing
technology for distance learning and 130 online e-government services
delivered through the Alabama.gov portal. Among the benefits, in 2007,
64 percent of home-builder licenses were renewed online with the
Alabama Home Builders Licensure Board. In June 2007, the Alabama
Department of Revenue had 336 users file for tax extensions online,
which resulted in payments totaling more than $7.2 million, compared
with 49 users filing $804,000 in payments in 2006.

Construction on Robotics Center set to begin this fall from The (Athens) News-Courier

A Huntsville representative of the Alabama
Industrial Development Training said the state should be ready to break
ground for the Advanced Technology Robotics Research and Development
Complex in October or November.
Ronnie Smith, Huntsville AIDT Center
manager, attended the Tuesday Limestone County Commission meeting in
which commissioners voted on a state request for preliminary and final
approval of the two-lot U.S. Robotics Institutional Subdivision. The
center will be located on property purchased from Delphi several years
ago in front of Plant 22.
