A New Year
January 2009
Petzapalooza 2007 Greetings!

Welcome to another year of Sparky's Pals programs! We will continue to work with the Girl Scouts and schools, and we're working on some exciting new programs, as well. We hope you can join us in promoting humane education!

For those with a sweet tooth, one of our volunteers is selling Girl Scout cookies to fund a Sparky's Pals project. Contact cookies@sparkypals.org for more information - deadline is February 1st!

Finally, we have two orphans from East Lake Pet Orphanage we'd like you to meet.

After-School Programs

Petzapalooza 2007

We are continuing our series of after-school programs for the Ft Worth ISD. We talk to the students about basic pet care, bite prevention and spay/neuter (if age-appropriate.) These are usually very large groups of thirty to fifty students, so we can meet a lot of children quickly and hopefully have them start thinking humanely.

Cookie Time!

For all of us who have already reconsidered "diet" as a New Year's resolution best left for next year, we have good news!

It's Girl Scout cookie time! Britta Ward, one of our most dedicated volunteers is selling cookies to raise money for her Girl Scout Silver Award, which will benefit Sparky's Pals. She is taking orders until February 1, 2009, so hurry!

If you need cookies (who doesn't?), please contact cookies@sparkypals.org to help Britta and her project.
Going to the Birds!

Crow
This spring, Sparky's Pals will "branch" out into bird-watching, in cooperation with the Celebrate Urban Birds program from Cornell University. We will visit at two after-school programs (and we're looking for more locations), show the students the local birds we're trying to spot, and then do some bird-watching in the school yard. It should be an interesting project! Volunteers are always welcome, so let us know if you would like to look for birds.

Holiday "Wrap-Up"

Christmas Wrap Sparky's Pals annual Holiday Wrapping fund-raiser was another success! We raised over $1000 over the eight days of wrapping. Thanks to Mary and Virginia Gilhooly, Jaclyn and Trish Gulino, Sasha Kovacic, Donna McCuiston, Joanne Scaggs and Britta and Kirsten Ward! Take January off and rest your wrists!

Cat of the Month

Charmin (Jan 2009)
Meet Charmin, one of the cats available for adoption from our friends at the East Lake Pet Orphanage. She and her brother Scott (see next) were born to a stray mom and are waiting to find their forever homes.

This is on Charmin you can squeeze!

East Lake Pet Orphanage is at 10101 E. Northwest Highway in Dallas.

During the month of January, you can adopt any ELPO tabby cat who is six months or older for $67.50, which is half the usual adoption fee. In addition, you can adopt that cat's roommate at the same time for no additional charge.

Every pet should have a companion, so contact ELPO today!
