Greetings!
This newsletter is a preview, rather than a review. We've been busy planning the Fall events, and we'd like to share our calendar with you! As always, the calendar at our website will have the latest information, so remember to check there for any updates or new events. To volunteer for any of these events, contact volunteer@sparkypals.org.
For new volunteers, please fill out a volunteer form on our website. You will also need a Sparky's Pals t-shirt ($10) to wear to events. Please let us know what size you need and we'll order one for you.

Girl Scout IP Workshops

This full-day workshop allows Girl Scouts to complete the Pets Interest Project. We hold them either at one of the Girl Scout Service Centers or on-site for a specific troop. It has been very popular! We have a number of the workshops approaching, and we can always use volunteers for helping with crafts and administrivia.
- Sunday, October 19th from 9am - 4pm for Troop 2051 (on-site)
- Saturday, November 1st from 9am - 4pm at the Joann Fogg Center
- Sunday, November 9th Tentative
- Sunday, November 16th from 10am - 5pm for Troop 1948 (on-site)

Barktoberfest - Saturday, October 25
Frisco Humane Society's Barktoberfest is at the Frisco Commons Park (8000 McKinney Street, Frisco.) We will have a children's crafts table, so we need non-craft-challenged people to assist. This is a good opportunity for Scouts to earn service hours!
Setup starts at 10am and the event runs from 12 noon until 4pm.

Holiday Pet Photography November 22 and 23
We will have one weekend of Holiday Pet Photography this year, which is a fund-raiser shared with East Lake Pet Orphanage. We have Santa, but we will need runners to help escort pets and their people through the process. It is at East Lake Pet Orphanage, on Northwest Highway near Audelia in Dallas.
If you can't volunteer, bring your pet for a holiday photo with Santa (or without!)
- Saturday, November 22 - 9:00am - 3:00pm (double-booked with Storytime)
- Sunday, November 23 - 11:00am - 5:00pm

Storytime - Barnes & Noble Prestonwood

One of our longest-running events, and one of the easiest for volunteers. Read a book, do a craft. It's short, fun and a great way to start volunteering.
We need a lot of help here, since all of the Storytimes for the rest of the year are double-booked with other events.
Storytime is from 10:30am until 11:30am on Saturdays.
- October 25 - (double-booked with Barktoberfest)
- November 1 - (with Curious George) (double-booked with a Pets IP Workshop)
- November 22 - (double-booked with Pet Photography)

School Visits

We will be visiting a number of schools throughout the Metroplex to introduce children to pet safety and basic pet care. We can always use volunteers for these events because they're on school days, so many of our volunteers are at work.
Kevin recently attended a workshop for the after-school coordinators in the Fort Worth ISD and met a number of teachers, so this list will probably grow.
- Thursday, November 13 4:00pm - 5:00pm Seminary Hills Elementary School
- Thursday, December 4 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm George C Clarke Elementary School

Holiday Gift Wrapping
If it's almost Halloween, then Holiday Gift Wrapping is just around the corner!
We will be wrapping at Barnes & Noble Prestonwood (Belt Line and Montfort) again this year, and we should have our assigned dates from the store soon. This is a major fund-raiser for us, so we'd like to be able to fill as many dates as the store will give us.
There are two volunteer meeting / orientation sessions scheduled for the gift wrappers, both at the Ridgewood-Belcher Recreation Center (6818 Fisher Road in Dallas) near White Rock Lake.
All gift wrappers need to purchase a Sparky's Pals t-shirt ($10) to wear on-duty.
Orientation Sessions
- Sunday, November 30 2 pm - 4 pm
- Sunday, December 7 2 pm - 4 pm

Simon's Retirement Party

Simon (and his parents) have been attending Storytime since he was four weeks old. He's been our most consistent visitor. However, he's moving to Brazil as Dad is being transferred. So, since he probably won't commute to Dallas every week for Storytime, October 25th will be his last visit.
This would be a good week for everyone to come say "Safe Travels!" to our most dedicated follower.

Spot The Error!
Ripley is our guest editor this month. He also edited last month, but nobody spotted the error, which was that I forgot to add the Spot the Error section!
If you find an error in this newsletter after carefully reading all of it, send the error to kjg@sparkypals.org and we will give you credit in the next edition.
