Sparky's Pals Highlights - March 2008
Highlights March 2008
 Greetings!

This newsletter was actually sent on time this month. April Fool!

March was a relatively quiet month at Sparky's Pals, although we did have our first presentation for a Brownie troop and a five-hour Girl Scout mini-workshop.

We also had a kid's crafts booth at the St Paddy's Pooch Party in The Colony as well as one at Easter in the Park in Dallas.

Our big announcement was our first miniature golf tournament, the 2008 Sparky's Pals Open, which will be May 18 at SpeedZone in Dallas.

Easter in the Park

Sparky's Pals had a booth at the Turtle Creek Association's Easter in the Park on Easter Sunday. We had about twenty children do pet-related crafts during the afternoon, and received a number of donations.
Know Your Pets

After talking to Girl Scouts and Juniors for the past year, we had our first Brownie presentation this month! "Know Your Pets" discusses basic pet care and how to determine a pet's mood by its sounds and appearance.

It also discusses the similarities between what a child needs to grow and what a pet needs. We use a grab-bag of pet-related products to go through a pet's day.
Caring for Your Pet At Home and in Your Community

We presented "Caring for Your Pet at Home and in Your Community" to Girl Scouts from a number of troops in Grand Prairie at the end of the month. This workshop is our longest, a series of six presentations in a five-hour, one-day session which covers almost everything required for the Pet Interest Project (five and a half of seven requirements.)

Thanks to Dr. Nancy Turner for assisting and presenting on how she became a veterinarian.

We will also be presenting this workshop at the Girl Scout IP College this summer.
Thank You!

Barbara and Jim Wilson
Sparky's Pals say "Thank you!" to Barbara and Jim Wilson for their generous donation of ten copies of "May I Pet Your Dog?" for us to distribute to Mi Escuelita classrooms.
A Birthday to Remember

JuliaThank you (and a belated Happy Birthday!) to Julia Hunt who turned her March birthday into a Sparky's Pals fund-raiser. In leiu of gifts, Julia asked her friends to make donations to Sparky's Pals.

We truly appreciate her turning a gift-giving occasion into donations for Sparky's Pals, and the generosity of her friends. (For the record, we believe Julia turned 25 this year.)
April Storytime

We will have Storytime at Barnes & Noble Prestonwood on April 19th at 10:30am. The store is located at Belt Line and Montfort, just east of the North Dallas Tollway.

Spot The Error!

Murphy This month, Murphy is stalking the wily error. Nobody saw an error in last month's newsletter, so it may have been error-free (although that's hard to believe.) Read through this month's newsletter carefully with Murphy, and report any errors to [email protected]!
As the school year begins to wind down, we still have a number of presentations scheduled and we're also beginning to plan our summer programs. We'll be at a number of Dallas Public Library branches this summer, as well as at Petzapalooza at the main branch in June.

We hope to see everyone at the 2008 Sparky's Pals Open.

Sincerely,

Kevin Gilhooly
