Sometimes We Just Have To Pinch Ourselves!
We are SOOOO LUCKY to live in a world that allows us to rub shoulders with our heroes! Here's a pic of Reno picker (and awesome Instructor), Rick Sparks, "talking shop" with America's most renowned banjo instructors, Pete Wernick and Bill Evans.
Of course, Pete Wernick is the famous, "Dr. Banjo", virtuoso banjoist (and comedian!). And Bill Evans is one of the Bluegrass College instructors, as well as a noted performer and expert on the history of this unique instrument.
Rick regularly gets called by both of these guys to help them out with various Camps and Workshops. This "banjo summit" took place at Berkeley's Freight and Salvage
 | | Rubbing shoulders with my hero, Tim O'Brien! |
Coffeehouse, an amazing theater operated by the Berkeley Society for the Preservation of Traditional Music. This organization hosts concerts, workshops, classes and dances and they are truly an inspiration to us here at TRAMP, Inc.
We were at "The Freight" to see Hot Rize on the first night of their first tour in over a decade. What a magical night it was! There were many "inside jokes" and "sentimental journeys" (for us Hot Rize fans). Nick and Tim still look like 18-year-old kids (and their voices are still just as pure), and Bryan Sutton truly conjured the spirit of "Swayed" during the Red Knuckles portion of the show. A truly epic experience! If you ever get a chance to see this influential band....don't miss it!
