"Hands On Learning" at the Americana Music Festival!
(or maybe we should say, "Hands AND FEET On Learning!")
At many music festivals, you bring a lawn chair and plop your butt down for 4, 6 or 8 hours, listening to band after band playing the same kind of music. Not at the Americana Festival!! At our festival, you will have MANY opportunities to actually EXPERIENCE new things! Don't just sit on your butt all weekend! (although we do provide shaded seating areas -- with chairs--for you to enjoy the many free performances).
We hope you will take advantage of our FREE GOLF CART SHUTTLE (look for our banners on the sides of the 6-person golf cart that will be going up and down C Street continuously). Let the shuttle take you to as many of the activities as you can fit in during the weekend. Here's a sampling: ~Join an "Old Time Singing Circle" (remember how great it feels to just raise your voice in song!?). No instruments or special singing ability required; just sing your heart out! ~Bring your kids (or just yourself) to the "Bluegrass Petting Zoo" and try your hand at playing a banjo, dobro, guitar or mountain dulcimer. ~Join one of our 3 "easy, introductory" dance activities. These are all old fashioned forms of "social dancing" (not "couples dancing"), and do not require any special physical talents. If you can walk, you can dance! Instructors at every dance activity will guide you gently. ~Attend a workshop on the history and different styles of banjo playing. At the end of the workshop, there will be banjos for you to try yourself! ~Kiss a burro (well, maybe just pet her...her name is Geraldine) ~Join a jam session ~Shop, eat, drink!
And, of course, we hope you will make it to all FIVE of the performance venues to enjoy the MANY DIFFERENT styles of music that will be performed. Remember -- take the free shuttle up and down the street, to get to the venues!
See the entire festival schedule on our website. Once you get to the Festival, pick up a free Festival Programme (it's 8 pages long!)---they'll be available in shops all over town, or stop by our Festival Headquarters booth at the Silverland Stage.
