Friday July 9 The Saddle Cats at Piper's Opera House
Only $10 (until June 30) Order hereAfter June 30, $15Western Swing music is HOT!! All the big festivals are featuring western swing bands, and we've got one of the HOTTEST---San Francsco's "Saddle Cats"! Where: Piper's Opera House (the theatre that Tim O'Brien* calls, "...cool...") When: Friday, July 9, 7pm Dance floor and full bar.
If you haven't experienced an authentic Western Swing Band, brace yourself! This music is a sort of "west coast cousin" to bluegrass---emerging in the late 40's and developing its own unique features including virtuoso fiddle playing, driving rhythm and intense vocals.
The Saddle Cats play this music with vigor, re-creating the honky-tonk sounds of Hank Williams, Lefty Frizell and Bob Wills. With the legendary Bobby Black on pedal steel (of "Asleep At The Wheel") and Richard Chon on fiddle (of "Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks"), the Saddle Cats are sure to get the sprung floor of Piper's Opera House a 'bouncin! Click here to order advance tickets for only $10! After June 30, tickets will be $15. *BTW, Tim O'Brien says he would LOVE to come back to Piper's! And we would LOVE to bring him back, if we can just keep our organization financially solvent until we can afford him again. So please buy a ticket to this event, and tell all your friends! |
Then....Saturday & Sunday, July 10-11 All Events Are FREE!! Click the banner to see the line-up---18 bands and 12 workshops! Schedule is posted on the website, too.

Our lodging partners include the Sugarloaf Mountain (cute and cozy---with a nice jamming patio), the Silverland (all the modern amenities), the Tahoe House (historical ambience) and the RV Park (tent camping as well as RV spaces). Special festival rates available at all---make sure you tell them you're coming for the Americana Festival. Check out the lodging options here. |
Call for Volunteers
We have a really nice t-shirt for you, if you can give us a couple hours during the festival weekend, July 9 -11. Our new logo (see at right) is capturing attention everywhere we go! Be the first on your block to proudly wear it.
We are seeking volunteers to help set up our performance venues, to "man" (or "woman") our informational booths, to run general errands and to help visitors find their way around Virginia City (don't worry, we have maps).
We also need a few more shade canopies. If anyone has one they could loan us, we'd really appreciate it!
Join our team of dedicated (and slightly crazy) folks in creating a unique festival that has a great future. Be a "charter member" of Virginia City's one-of-a-kind "Americana Festival"!
