While Editing Pictures to Add to Our Website......
Jamming and dancing with ghosts???
Orbs
I'm FINALLY getting around to adding HUNDREDS of photos, dating back to 2005, to our website.  I have a really good camera, and most of my photos are crystal clear.
But there is a series of pictures, taken at the Historic Freight Depot in Virginia City during our 2008 Bluegrass Festival, that have weird blobs on them.  The blobs look like water spots on the camera lens.  But these blobs don't appear in any other pictures that I've taken, before or since, with this camera (so they can't be spots on the camera lens).

I remember that, to take these pictures, I climbed up on top of a table so I could get a "panorama" of the whole wonderful jam/dance that was happening (if you were there, you remember how magical it was!).  In these "table top" pictures, there are countless blobs hovering above peoples' heads.  One of the blobs is sitting on David's nose!  Weird, huh?
Well, I'm told that some people believe these "blobs" are ghosts!  They're called "orbs", and people pay A LOT of money to come to Virginia City on "ghost tours", in hopes that they will take a picture that has orbs in it.
Who'da thunk that ghosts would LOVE bluegrass music so much!  To see these pictures---and hundreds more!---go to our photo gallery page.

Speaking of Virginia City....
What a great place to experience great live music and dance!
Maybe the ghosts will come out again for our 3rd Annual Americana Festival, July 9-11??  Whether or not you believe in ghosts, you'll certainly experience some "magic" at our festival in VC this summer.  The line-up has now been finalized and is posted on
our website
We're also excited that this festival attracted the notice of the Associated Press, which mentions the festival prominently in an article about all the great events happening in our area in July.
Get your lodging arrangements lined-up soon!  Since the festival is free, plan on spending the whole weekend at one of the lodging facilities that are offering special rates (make sure to mention you're coming for the Americana Festival).  Each of them has public spaces perfect for jamming.
At the Sugarloaf Motel there is a cozy courtyard where passers-by will stop and listen while you jam.  The Sugarloaf is also the only place on C Street with a market for all your....errr....snack and beverage requirements.  Jamming in the parlor or on the balcony of the Tahoe House will make you feel like Mark Twain or Ben Cartwright could walk in at any second.  The lawns, lobby and parking lot of the Silverland have been popular jam areas in years past.  And, of course, the RV Park has the classic "campground ambience" for those who like to jam around a campfire.
Virginia City's  C Street "walking district" is about 10 city blocks long and there will be performances, workshops, jams and dances happening all along the street.  There are
C Street Walking District
some steep hills, so wear good walking shoes and get yourself a gig bag to strap your instrument to your back.  There will be several free shuttle services running, too---just flag them down and hop aboard.

Ride the historic V&T Railroad
Of course, you'll need some spending money---you'll want to partake of the old fashioned ice cream, fudge, handmade candies, micro-brew beers, hand-tossed pizza, street bar-b-que and other delicacies available throughout town.  You'll also want to buy a ticket to ride an authentic1860's steam locomotive. You can take the short route (35 minutes) or take the hour and a half ride where you'll experience steep canyons,  historic mine remnants and maybe a herd of wild mustangs (and enjoy live music on board, too!).
Or take a horse-drawn buggy ride.
Dare ya to play your banjo while you ride!

Though you won't need tickets to get into any of the events on Saturday and Sunday, we know you'll want to attend the Friday night show at Piper's Opera House, featuring San Francisco's swingin' Saddle Cats.  Dancing allowed!  In fact, we'll have a dance caller/instructor there to help you learn some of the "old style" dances like the Cotton Eyed Joe and the Two Step, if you like.  Only $10 in advance or $15 at the door.  Click here for more info.

We hope that, as you stroll the streets on Saturday and Sunday, enjoying the many free performances and events, that you will drop some bills into the donation and tip jars you will see throughout town.  Most everyone involved in this festival---musicians and business owners---are donating their time and services very generously.  Please let them know you appreciate them!
WE REALLY APPRECIATE the Nevada Arts Council and the Nevada Commission on Tourism who have provided some grant funds to help with this festival.  During these hard economic times, we are very grateful for the public and private support that we receive!  This festival is totally unique and different from any festival throughout America.
We have an entire town that is a Historical Landmark, combined with incredibly talented local musicians, gorgeous scenery and a community filled with friendly folks---who like to dress up in costumes!   We hope to continue hosting this festival for many years to come, and we hope you will join us!

Other Great News!!
The Hoot is Back!

The Risky Biscuit Hayseed Hoot will be back on the air starting this Saturday!!  This great show---featuring the "amazing Dondo" playing Americana and "roots" music (as well as great humor and commentary) will air on Saturdays, 11am to 1pm on radio station 88.7 FM KUNR, Reno Public Radio.
Jimbo, the voice of acoustic music!
AND.....right after the Hoot, our other favorite show, Jimbo's Juke Joint & Acoustic Roadhouse Cafe will be broadcast from 1-3pm, also on 88.7 KUNR.  And Jimbo's show is returning  to a TWO HOUR format!!  Thank you KUNR!

We hope all of you will consider making a contribution (any amount welcome) to this great radio station which doesn't have commercials---it's public radio!  TRAMP is a sponsor of both of these shows, and we hope you will all make a contribution to go towards these shows, too.  Click here to learn how easy it is to become a KUNR supporter.
