SACRAMENTO,CA- Run
for a Reason RUN EXPO is a free event hosted by Equal Start
at California Family Fitness, Laguna on August 14 from 10AM-4PM. Their
goal is to create better health, therefore better academics for
inner-city children. Be Change, our fitness initiative for inner-city
children, secures health and dental care as well as after school
mentoring programming.
Their
mission is proactive and preventative. They recruit one MARATHONER,
1/2 MARATHONER, OR RELAY team for every child in the inner city and
under performing school called select Oak Ridge
Elementary. Recruited runners and joggers participate in the California
International Marathon, and in doing so, raise awareness for Be Change
and the needed sponsorship funding for the child they are running on
behalf.
They
need a platform to find 500 runners. In five years, they have doubled
runners ever year, with more than 200 in 2009. To reach their goal of
500 runners running for a reason to impact an inner-city child's health
and wellness, they are offering a FREE RUN EXPO Saturday at California Family Fitness to
give area joggers and runners the opportunity to get equipped for the
recently launched 18 weeks of training leading into the California International Marathon.
The
Run Expo brings exposure to Equal Start's Fall Campaign called Run for a
Reason. On a national level, of those who run a marathon, less than
20% run for any altruistic value or personal cause. Their mission is to
empower people to believe that, "if you are going to run, run for a
reason." It makes the 18 weeks of early morning jogs more feasible and
motivational.
All Run Expo attenders will have access to register online for the CIM and for Be Change's Run for a Reason Initiative.
