Latest 2009 CIM News

Kaiser Permanente becomes the CIM's presenting sponsor! The CIM is
proud to announce that Kaiser Pemanente has increased its support of the CIM by
becoming its presenting sponsor. Kaiser Pemanente's mission of improving fitness
for all ages of the population through exercise is a perfect match for the CIM.
Setting a goal to run the CIM and training properly to achieve this goal has
wide ranging health benefits such as weight loss and stress reduction.
Kaiser will continue to sponsor the Youth Fitness Program and the maraFUNrun. Also, Kaiser Permanente medical personnel will staff all the aid
stations and the finish line! Thank you, Kaiser Permanente!
Marathon
Medicine: Kaiser Permanente to sponsor the First Annual CIM Runner's Medical Symposium
Previously only held on the East Coast at the Boston Marathon, Kaiser will team
up with the American Medical Running Association to start the first annual
Runner's Medical Symposium at the CIM this year. Medical experts from around the country will present cutting edge talks on research and physiology to health care professionals, runners and coaches. Soon additional information will be posted at RunCIM.org.
Meet
Bart Yasso at the 2009 CIM

Bart (pictured above on the right during his recent Road Warrior Tour to Iraq) is the Chief Running Officer for Runner's World Magazine, a global adventure runner, co-author of the inspirational book My Life on the Run, and one of
the most enthusiastic running ambassadors you could
ever meet. He will be the CIM's 2009 honored guest and celebrity runner.
Don't miss his informative and entertaining talk at the Expo Clinic. In addition, he will be available for
book signings of My Life on the Run,
will speak at the Medical Symposium, and will answer your questions about the (infamous) Yasso 800s.
Run
for a Reason: Local Youth Fitness
Youth fitness is
an important mission for the CIM and youth fitness programs are among the
CIM's beneficiaries. This year the CIM is partnering with BE CHANGE - Run
the Extra Mile. This program, founded by ultra runner Jason Harper,
targets the Oakridge Elementary School, located in Oak Park, one of the
Sacramento area's roughest neighborhoods. Combine your marathon finish
goal with a goal to raise much-needed funds for these inner city kids.
Learn more by following the links posted on the front page of
RunCIM.org.
Ultima
Replenisher ...will be the CIM's official electrolyte replacement beverage for the next three years. Learn more about Ultima, including points of purchase, at ultimareplenisher.com.
The CIM's Newest Sponsor: Star Fine Foods Star Fine Foods brings runners many of our favorite foods and ingredients: the finest in olive oils, vinegars, olives and specialty products such as peppers, capers and maraschino cherries! Welcome to the CIM family!
Did
you know?
- The CIM was the WINNER
of a recent online Sacramento Bee poll for the Sacramento area's best sporting event - accumulating
more votes than the Amgen Tour of California Sacramento cycling
events, Eppie's Great Race, the Sacramento Kings' and the Sacramento
River Cats' season openers.
- The September issue of
Marathon and Beyond will feature the CIM. Check it out!
- The new bridge next to the Folsom Dam opened last May. It
will provide easy access for busses taking runners to the start and
plenty of bus parking near the zillions of porta potties. This means all the
busses will allow their passengers to stay on board, warm and cozy,
before the marathon start (something those driven to the start by friends are
unable to enjoy).
- CIM will be the 2009 Marathon Championships for:
- NASCAR comes to CIM: Well, kinda.......Due to the
safety of the children running the maraFUNrun, crankchairs will be
limited to one gear, much
like the restrictor plates required in NASCAR race cars.
