Special Edition Certification Updates

The iaedp Board of Directors and iaedp Certification Committee in recognition of the needs of our members are working on ways to make certification more accessible to qualified professionals.

iaedp Approved Supervisor

Professionals pursuing the CEDS, CEDRD or CEDRN designation are required to be supervised by a qualified professional who has received approval from iaedp™'s Certification Committee. iaedp™ has designed it's certification program to insure it's certified members are able to demonstrate expertise through a range of professional activities, achievements, supervised activities and testing. Requirements for supervision are designed to be in line with these competencies. It is iaedp™'s view that those who are providing supervision to Certification candidates must confirm their own extensive experience and training in the field of eating disorders. The Certification Committee reviews the qualifications of all supervisors.

An iaedp™ Approved Supervisor is defined as a professional who is not one's primary personal therapist; has a minimum of five (5) years experience treating persons with eating disorders; no fewer than 6,000 hours of approved work experience in the treatment and diagnosis of eating disorders; holds an accredited masters degree or higher in the health or behavioral science fields if mental health professional, minimum of bachelors degree if Registered Dietitian, and minimum of bachelors degree if Registered Nurse; and is licensed by his/her state licensing board as appropriate.

  1. Effective August 1, 2012 the fee structure has changed.  A $75 one time application fee must accompany the application.  (Application fees are non refundable.)
  2. Renewals:  The two year renewal period has been eliminated.  Random audits will be conducted by iaedp of approved supervisors each year.
  3. All approved supervisors must retain iaedp membership as a requisite of approved supervisor status.

Approval process for non-iaedp™ Approved Supervisors

For a certification candidate, all direct ED patient hours acquired are applicable toward the 2000 required hours. If the individual supervising your hours is not an iaedp™ Approved Supervisor, he/she can submit his/her resume for review and approval. All requests should be sent via email from the Supervisor to the attention of the Certification Director (iaedpcertification@gmail.com) . The Supervisor will receive response within 2 weeks of request. The applicant should include a copy of an approval with the final application.

Call for Proposals

We are seeking abstracts on inventive treatment modalities for the numerous phases of the eating disordered client's journey-- from denial and resistance to treatment and, ultimately, recovery. The spectrum ranging from disordered eating to life threatening medical complications requires skill and creativity. Treatment providers from all disciplines are challenged to creatively convert ongoing research, brain imaging, and treatment updates into meaningful ED treatment protocols. We are seeking submittals on individual, group, and family work which help clinicians in all treatment settings. Please include an experiential or interactive component in your presentation. Preference will be given to unique presentations offered for the first time.

All abstracts must be submitted online. The call will close at midnight on August 18, 2012.  Please read the full call, details on submissions, and submit your abstract online here.  If you wish to bookmark the abstract site, it is here.

Award nominations and Fellow of iaedp applications are encouraged from members through forms provided online.

There is a $50 application fee, a $200 one time fee upon approval, and a $25 annual records maintenance fee. Each recipient must maintain an iaedp membership along with their fellow status. iaedp Creates the Christine Hartline Symposium Scholarship

Each year the iaedp Board of Directors will select someone who will be able to attend the conference on a scholarship in Christine's name.  For the past few years iaedp has offered financial aid scholarships to qualified first time attendees or iaedp members who need help with fees during a time of financial hardship.  These recipients receive a greatly reduced conference registration fee.  The new Christine Hartline Symposium Scholarship will be awarded to cover all registration fees for one qualified recipient. You may donate here.
