iaedp Symposium 2012 Presents Award-Winning Exclusive NOR*MAL: The Musical

The hit that kick-started an entire nonprofit movement for eating disorders will be offered to both Symposium attendees and to the public

PEKIN, Ill. (Jan. 19, 2012) - The iaedp Foundation is pleased to announce the special performance of the off-Broadway hit, NOR*MAL, The Musical, at Symposium 2012. This award-winning production, which takes place on Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Charleston Marriott from 8 to 10 p.m., is open to both Symposium 2012 attendees and to the public. Tickets can be purchased online for $12 here or for $15 at the door.

NOR*MAL is the true story of a family torn apart by a daughter's struggle with an eating disorder told from the mother's perspective. Written by New York Foundation Artists & Art award winner Yvonne Adrian, Broadway veteran actress and writer Cheryl Stern, and Emmy award-winning composer Tom Kochan, NOR*MAL is a provocative and fresh look inside the family dynamic of those suffering from eating disorders.

The humorous rock musical unfolds in short, episodic scenes and deeply resonant, emotional storytelling. This evocative artistic theatrical work not only raises awareness of eating disorders and the life-saving importance of family communication, but also demonstrates the healing power of theatre itself.

"NOR*MAL kick-started an entire nonprofit movement dedicated to the continuous healing of eating disorders. This intimate glimpse into one family's true story and struggle serves as a mirror for so many families in the United States," said Bonnie Harken, Managing Director at The iaedp Foundation. "We are excited to offer our attendees such an extraordinary program at Symposium 2012, and hope that the infectious spirit of survival will captivate the entire audience."

This exclusive presentation confronts eating disorders and promotes hope and survival. Since its inception in 2006, this life-changing musical has provided educators, doctors, parents and mentors with a unique opportunity to open dialogue between those patients and families who have difficulty responding to traditional talk therapy. For most audience members, NOR*MAL means no longer having to hide and opening up to others to find help, hope and healing.

NORMAL In Schools (NIS) is a nonprofit organization that teaches educators, students, parents and mentors about eating disorders, body image and self-esteem through their acclaimed arts and mindfulness programs. For over 5 years, NORMAL has been collaborating with the nation's leading nonprofits and medical professionals. The iaedp member and NIS Founder/President Robyn Hussa was instrumental in bringing NOR*MAL, The Musical, to Symposium 2012 in Charleston.
