Welcome
Orgalime In-Brief edition 38. Orgalime and its members (plus a few other sectors, I imagine) are eagerly awaiting the release of the Communication from the European Commission - 'the 2012 review of industrial policy', now due out in early October. The consultation was open to all stakeholders between May and August 2012. Orgalime passed their contribution [ more] Please continue to let other colleagues know about In-Brief by using the 'forward e-mail' link at the bottom of the page. |

Orgalime Guide to understanding the specific obligations of the recast RoHS Directive
|
The purpose of the Orgalime Guide is to explain the main changes and obligations arising from the recast, and to identify their consequences for Orgalime industries. Its update of September 2012 provides to readers the common understanding of the Directive of the affected European manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment in the context of the Commission's consultation on the draft RoHS2-FAQ Guidance Document of 15 June 2012 and its announced possible revision before 3 January 2013 [more]

| Regulation on Guidelines for Trans-European Energy Infrastructure ("TEN-E") - Our recommendations on the draft report of Rapporteur Campos | |
Orgalime supports the Commission's infrastructure package (including the draft TEN-E Regulation) and related work of the European Parliament to step up efforts in investing and making trans-European energy infrastructures fit for meeting future societal challenges. We consider the proposal for a TEN-E Regulation as an opportunity to achieve more competitive, flexible, integrated, energy efficient energy infrastructures, while ensuring security and reliability of energy supply. This is not only essential for European industries, which depend on energy input for their manufacturing processes, but also of utmost importance for the overall welfare of European citizens in a modern society. As key technology providers for the generation, transmission, distribution and use of energy and energy related products, but also as significant energy users, European engineering industries represented by Orgalime are particularly committed to contribute to upgrading and modernising energy infrastructures in Europe and beyond. We are equally committed to work together with all other actors and stakeholders in the interest of achieving smart, sustainable, cost-efficient and inclusive growth solutions[ more ]

 | Yes, Mr. Barroso, look at the 'state of the Union'! |
We fully agree with you that new thinking is needed. We cannot go on with business as usual. Thank you for your words of the 12 September, on how successful Europe's engineering industry is in a globalised world. Indeed, our industry which employs over 10 million people in Europe is a world leader. Why? Because our companies are dynamic and focused: they thrive on innovation developed with capable staff who invest their knowledge into developing the new products which give their companies their fine competitive edge. This is the fruit of hard work and in the past has been much helped by a supportive framework - the internal market - which allowed our companies to grow in Europe. The British Olympians had 17 days of sporting triumph at the recent London 2012 game; however that triumph was a decade in the making. Success was instilled through foresight and through hard work together across the board to make the Olympics a success for each and every athlete [ more] |

Intellectual Property Rights - Our views on the future tasks of the European Observatory
| In view of the European institutions proceedings on Eco design requirements for domestic and commercial kitchen appliances, Orgalime presented additional comments to the debate that complement earlier submissions and points raised at the meeting of the Consultation Forum. Orgalime felt the need to comment on this particular draft implementation measures as, in contrast to other implementation measures, it affects several branches of Orgalime's constituency and raises the horizontal concern of arriving at a proper definition of the products covered [more]

EP Internal Market and Consumer Affairs Committee (IMCO) report on the alignment of 9 Directives with Decision 768/2008
|
Orgalime has welcomed the reports of Ms Roithová on the alignment of 9 Directives with the New Legislative Framework (NLF). We appreciate the efforts of the Rapporteur and the members of the Internal Market and Consumer Affairs Committee (IMCO) to resist the incorporation of too many suggestions for changes which would clearly deviate from a pure alignment (e.g. a reform of the accreditation system). We also welcome the reaffirmation of the principle of non-retroactivity of the law in several provisions, as this will enhance the legal certainty for all economic operators [ more]

 | Orgalime's updated bestseller - S 2012, also a bestseller! |
As the international sale of products represents the core business of companies in the mechanical and electrical engineering industries in Europe, Orgalime soon recognised that these companies would benefit from a set of General Conditions for the supply of products, which could be used worldwide. The original version of the Orgalime Supply Conditions was first published in 1992 (S 92 conditions) and these conditions have ever since been among Orgalime's most widely used legal publications. They are used in a very large-scale with well over 1,000,000 hard copies sold since their publication and they are the biggest pull to our licensing website, where hundreds of companies from all over the world have purchased a licence for the use of Orgalime's standardised conditions in electronic format [ more]

Looking ahead to November, Orgalime has planned a dinner debate inside the European Parliament (within the framework of the General Assembly) that will discuss what needs to be done to make Europe a more attractive place to invest (particularly industrial investment). Panellists from Industry, the European Parliament and the European Commission will drive the debate.
Sincerely,
Orgalime Secretariat |
