Our July workshop in Oregon was an incredible and delightful experience and we would love to have those of you who couldn't join us there join us in Orlando.  Here are a few comments from our Oregon training participants: 
 
     Great energetic dynamics! Very positive energy of
     compatibility and teamwork in presenting!
 
     I have done a lot of workshops and deep healing
     trainings and work, and what they were largely  
     missing is what you have - Respect, Understanding
     and Compassion for WHERE people ARE, w/o trying to
     bulldoze them into change or healing. How to meet
     the moment...you both described and modeled it.
 
     I LOVED the insights I gained and real, solid,
     concrete applied training and hands on stuff, as well

Overcoming Memory Flooding
 
When our history includes a multitude of traumatic experiences, many times we can find ourselves being caught in the phenomenon referred to as "flooding".  Out of nowhere we find ourselves swimming in a terrifying "flood" of images, memories and emotions like a tickertape parade in our minds. And many times when we are doing our best to tap and work through these things for ourselves or with others, regardless of how gently we approach the subject matter - we may find ourselves or our clients frozen in their tracks because the flooding takes over. When we know we are diving into deep work that involves complex histories it is important to be totally present, tuned in with what we are experiencing personally and honoring those feelings. The same of course applies, even more so when we are assisting others. Remember to take it gently and slowly, one step at a time. It is not a race but a process that can unfold gently. And if the need to back off or refer to or consult with someone with greater experience is even a fleeting thought, please do not hesitate doing so.  While EFT tends to be a very forgiving technique, please do all you can to avoid unnecessary re-traumatization.  So with all of that said - what do we do when we find ourselves facing these situations?  Take a few deep breathes and consider some version of the language I am offering here for your consideration.  As always, adjust the wording to suit the specific situation. The words need to match the perspective and resonate with that of the individual.
 
At the Karate Chop or Sore Spot:
 
     Even though I am experiencing this flooding, I am
     thanking the wiser part of me for working with me
     to slow the stream to the pace that is perfect for 
     me.
 
     Even though every time I face this issue, I am
     flooded with pictures, memories and emotions, I am
     so happy and grateful that the wiser part of me is
     working with me now, slowing things to the pace   
     that works perfectly for me. 

     Even though this flooding stops me cold in my  
     tracks, I am now trusting the wiser part of me,
     knowing it will only deliver a little at a time, as I am
     able to process it.
 
Through the Sequence:
 
     TH  This overwhelming flood 
     EB  That stops me in my tracks 
     OE  That won't allow me to make progress. 
     UE  This flood of images and emotions
     UN  All this flooding
     UL  This flood of memories and images
     CB  It is just too much for me
     UA  I feel it in every cell of my being
 
     TH  This flood of images, emotions and memories
     EB  That I feel in my ___(fill in the blank)____ .
     OE  This flooding that overwhelms me.
     UE  How can I possibly get beyond this?
     UN  All this fear I feel inside... 
     UL  I am now trusting the wiser part of me
     CB  to guide me through this
     UA  at the pace that works perfectly for me 
 
     TH  I am so happy and grateful..
     EB   that I am beginning to feel calmer.
     OE  I am so happy and grateful..
     UE  that I am breathing easier.
     UN  I am so happy and grateful..
     UL  that I can feel my mind is quieting itself 
     CB  I am so happy and grateful..
     UA  that I can begin to experience hope.
 
Please repeat as necessary, remembering to adjust the language to what best suits you or comes to you as tap.  If specifics come to mind as you work through this, as they often will, be sure to address them separately...
