Dave Veale                                          June 7, 2012

Greetings!

I'm never quite sure what to expect when I walk into an interview. The goal with my Leadership Unleashed column in the Telegraph Journal is to do informative interviews with a variety of leaders that highlight their accomplishments, share their insights into leadership and also give the reader a sense of what inspires them.

All the leaders I have interviewed have been unique, intriguing and

Stephen M.R. Covey
Stephen M.R. Covey ~ Author & compelling keynote speaker and advisor on trust, leadership, ethics, and high performance
surprisingly open to sharing their wisdom, which is what has made the column such a passion project for me over the last two years.

What made my interview with Stephen M.R. Covey different  was that I was coming into the interview having read his best selling book The SPEED of Trust a number of times.

The topic of trust is something that comes up again and again with clients and I often refer to Covey's work in this area.

TRUSTIn preparation for my interview, I watched a previous interview that Stephen gave on CNN...I can report that this was not an activity that calmed me down. Instead, I found myself wondering how relevant my questions were and doubting my ability to meet my goals for the column. You have to love 'self-doubt' - it does wonders for your confidence! In the spirit of full disclosure, I also had a concern that the author of one of my favourite books - with such an important message - wouldn't live up to his very important message. Would he extend trust to me?

So, I thought I'd share a behind-the-scenes look at my recent interview with Stephen. Read it here.

And, you can read the full interview and watch a short video of my interview with Stephen M.R. Covey as it appeared in the Telegraph Journal in May.

Share and grow,

Dave

Family Business Celebrates
100 years of Success

According to studies conducted by the Bank of Montreal Institute for Small Business,

"The Six Success Factors" for starting a small business are self-motivation, business and industry knowledge, organization and management capabilities, mar
Don & Bog Shawketing skill, customer/vendor relations and vision.

Now imagine what it takes to keep a small business growing and thriving for 100 years.
I interviewed Don and Bob Shaw of Dykeman's Hardware last year and they shared tips for long-term business success and what the future holds.
