Learning to be More Resilient
By Nimira Harjee

We often think of resilience in the context of adapting to significant change, overcoming adversity or readjusting after a critical setback but resilience also plays a significant role in how well we respond to everyday challenges and how we revitalize ourselves.

Fresh Ideas December 2, 2009
Greetings!

Dave VealeHave you ever been 'in the zone' or experienced 'flow'? That place where you feel an 'energized focus, full involvement and success in the process of the activity'. Well I did when I had an opportunity to deliver a workshop, Using Coaching to Lead, to the 2009 cohort from the Wallace McCain Institute for Business Leadership.  This cohort is made up of 15 amazing leaders from Atlantic Canada who were selected out of the hundreds who were nominated.

So what exactly happened on that cold Saturday morning in Alma, New Brunswick? After reading about the Components of Flow, I believe what I was experiencing was a direct result of being in an environment that was completely open to learning about my topic, and how it applies to them, which in turn helped me fully immerse myself in the presentation.  I give full credit to each of the 15 leaders and Nancy Mathis, the Executive Director, for creating an open, authentic learning environment.

Here are three things that Wallace McCain Institute does to help create this incredible learning environment. Read more...

Take a couple of minutes to check out Allison Wolf's insights on Leading with your Strengths and another article on building your resiliency by Nimira Harjee, both included in this issue of Fresh Ideas. Enjoy.

Share and Grow,

Here's What Inspires You!

Inspiration

Earlier this year, Dave shared a story about Inspiration. We also asked our Fresh Ideas readers what Inspired them. Here's one of many brilliant responses!

"Read a book that challenges you.
Learn from children. Have faith in
whatever it is you want to believe
in and draw positive energy from it."

We'll share more responses in future issues of Fresh Ideas!  What Inspires You?  We'd Love to Know!
