Marilyn's Book Recommendation... |

Book: Oh, the Places You'll Go! By: Dr. Seuss Review by: Marilyn Singh
(with excerpts from the book)
Recently I was enjoying a wonderful visit in Springfield, Mass. One of this city's claims to fame is being the home of Dr. Seuss. There is a wonderful series of statues in the quadrangle honouring characters from Dr. Seuss' books.
There is also a huge statue of a book with excerpts from "Oh The Places You'll Go". It's been a long time since I read this story. It was so inspirational that I came home and bought the book.
And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed.)
Why read this book? It's fun, unlike some leadership books we know we "should" read. I also think that because it's a children's book it can access parts of our being that remembers dreaming.

Greetings!
Being a coach, an entrepreneur and an 'eternal optimist' are probably reasons that I find myself continually searching for inspiration. I have found many sources of inspiration in books (e.g. Steve Martin: 'Born Standing Up'), movies (e.g. It's A Wonderful Life) and sporting endeavours (e.g. John Challis: Courage + Belief = Life). These are brilliant stories about people overcoming adversity and winning despite huge obstacles. The kind of stories that leave me asking myself, "am I really playing big?".
While these are fantastic places to find inspiration, I've recently been reminded that I should also be looking closer to home to be inspired. In this case the source of my inspiration comes from an amazing kindergarten teacher.
Being a kindergarten teacher, I believe, takes an extraordinarily patient person who is passionate about making a difference in children's lives by providing them with an educational and social foundation to grow from. No easy task! Sometimes, as was the case this last school year, it also involves helping children make sense of a tragedy. Continue reading...
