WHAT HAS INSPIRED YOU IN THE LAST YEAR? |
|
By Dave Veale
My wife, Mary Ellen, and I were hosting a dinner party recently and the question was posed... "What has inspired you in the last year?" Tough question but I found it easy to answer. Ramesh Ferris has been a huge inspiration for me!
I grew up in Northern Canada (Whitehorse, Yukon) and Ramesh went to the same church as my family. Although he is younger than me, Ramesh had an impact on me because of his brilliant smile and amazing love of life...despite the obvious challenges of living with the effects of Polio.
So, what's happened in the last year to Ramesh? He embarked on a mission called Cycle to Walk. Vision Coaching is a sponsor of Cycle to Walk and we're very excited about Ramesh's accomplishments.
If you want look up 'leader' in the dictionary, I'm certain that there would be a picture of Ramesh! |

Fresh Ideas |
November 2008 |
Greetings!
How exciting it was last week to be surrounded by coaches from 47 different countries at the International Coach Federation Conference in Montreal. What an experience - being at this coaching conference is like being with "the tribe"! It was also great to connect with fellow graduates of Royal Roads University's executive coaching program.
We've just put the finishing touches on our Vision Coaching corporate video. Have a look and let me know what you think!
As always, we love hearing from you and look forward to your feedback and contributions to Fresh Ideas!
Share and Grow, Dave

An Ideas Festival that lives up to it's name! |
by Dave Veale
I attended two presentations that kicked off the Ideas Festival in St. Andrews last month where I had an opportunity to see the 21inc groups deliver their projects. These projects focused on how to build leadership in New Brunswick.
It was great to see the creativity and innovation as well as the unique ideas on what could help attract and retain future leaders to the province of New Brunswick (considered a 'have not' province in Canada).
The 21 young leaders toured New Brunswick earlier this year and were exposed to areas of the province that many of them had never seen before. After being split into groups, they focused on community projects that addressed issues facing New Brunswick. Two projects emerged dealing with building capacity; the first, to create more opportunities for young people to sit on boards and the second, to have grade seven students put together a 3 minute video about what they are proud of in their community. I'm looking forward to following the progress of this unique group of leaders!
Here are a couple of stories published recently about 21inc and the Ideas Conference:

What Does Compassionate Leadership Look Like? |
An entire company rallies behind an ill employee By Marilyn Singh Compassionate leadership is an integral part of our vision at Vision Coaching. Our Vision Statement reads: A world that values, and is transformed by, creative, resilient and compassionate leadership.
Compassionate leadership does indeed transform the world - I was overwhelmed when I experienced it first hand in New Mexico last month. I was in Artesia, New Mexico to complete the final two days of training for this year's leadership certificate program for PVT when I received a call from the CEO telling me that a lady who had been an employee of PVT had passed away and that the training day I had scheduled on Friday would have to be cancelled. The funeral would be Friday and the office would be closed so that everyone could attend.
That alone impressed me. It was just the beginning of this amazing story of compassion and care.
