Fresh Ideas February 2008
Greetings!

Exciting news! Angie Thompson, is joining the Vision Coaching team. Angie has a unique vision that can best be summed up in the following statement: "People are Great!  See the greatness in everyone. Leaders are made through self discovery, reflection, daring to see the possibilities." Angie is a welcome addition to our growing group of certified executive coaches. We've put Angie right to work reviewing a book for our Fresh Ideas readers. We think it's an excellent choice!

As coaches, we see brilliance within our clients on a regular basis and Nathalie Godbout is a coach's dream client! She is making a real difference since her arrival as chair of the Saint John Board of Trade last year. We have shared a story in our Portrait of a Leader (left) that appeared recently in the Telegraph-Journal. It's incredible what Nathalie is managing to achieve while juggling motherhood, a business, her responsibilities with the Board of Trade, and more!

And, we also have a story to share about Tim Coates, Executive Director of 21inc, who put "reverse brain drain" into gear and moved back to New Brunswick. Read the story, below, to discover how a leadership initiative brought him back!

As always, we love hearing from you and look forward to your feedback and contributions to Fresh Ideas!

Inspired by Young Leaders, Harvard Grad is Drawn Back to New Brunswick

Through wonderful serendipity, I've been able to meet and get to 21incknow Tim Coates, the Executive Director of 21inc. Born of UNB's NextNB: 21 leaders for the 21st century initiative, 21inc is a not-for-profit organization committed to creating the capacity for change in New Brunswick by developing the best community leaders in Canada.

I've done some coaching work with him and have also been discussing how Vision Coaching can help 21inc achieve its mission.  After I heard his story about why he chose to leave Harvard and return to New Brunswick after completing a Masters degree in public policy, I asked Tim to share the whole story.

What inspired Tim Coates to come back?

Review by:

Angie Thompson, CHRP, C.E.C., ACC

Like our clients, executive coaches sometimes go through  periods when we  examine our lives and wonder if we are living with real purpose or just living to stay on the same path.  Over the last year, I have spent some time reviewing my hopes, dreams and accomplishments; as a result, I've found myself open to being more purposeful in my daily tasks and goals. One of my 2008 goals is to be a daily practitioner of "Pay it Forward."  The film of the same name provides a moving illustration of what this philosophy takes and the great rewards it offers.
