Tapping Into Inner Strength
I'm no strongman. AKC Coach, Andy Fitting is a strongman! His performance at last week's Kettlebell World Championship was evidence of that. But one of the most powerful marketing tools I have at my disposal, as a coach and educator, is to perform a few relatively heavy one-arm Jerks for guys half my age and sometimes 30-plus pound heavier.

Depending upon the situation (and how I feel that day), I'll pick up a bell between 28kg (62lb) and 40kg (88lb) and simply perform a few reps, with minimal effort, maybe even hold lockout while I converse, telling them all about the AKC and the Fedorenko Method. Young athletes will usually want to 'try it'. Initially they struggle with technique, almost wrestling with the kettlebell, but most are overwhelmed at the sheer force of the bell as it sails into the rack position.

AKC FITNESS LI / FITNESS CHALLENGE

SEPTEMBER 19, 2010

Are you ready to take the challenge? The first ever AKC Fitness LI, Fitness Triathlon will be held on Sunday, September 19 at AKC Fitness Long Island. There will be first place and second place prizes for both men and women.

You'll need to perform 3, six minute sets (Jerk, Snatch, Long Cycle) with one hand switch (3 minutes per hand). They'll be 2 minutes rest between sets. Set rep per minute caps are 16 rpm for Jerk and Snatch, and 10 rpm for Long Cycle. You can use different bells for each movement, but each kettlebell will be assigned a factor at 1 point for every 8 kilograms. A weight coefficient will be tallied into the final sore.
