YFBCA Partners With the STOP Sports Injuries Campaign.
YFBCA is always educating our coaches on putting safety first, and sharing the best ways to decrease the risk of injuries. With that, YFBCA is proud to announce its partnership with the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, and its STOP Sports Injuries campaign. The STOP (Sports Trauma and Overuse Prevention) Sports Injuries campaign was developed to address the issues of overuse injuries in young athletes, which is quickly becoming a critical issue. This initiative not only raises awareness and provides education on injury reduction, but also highlights how playing safe and smart can enhance and extend a child's athletic career, improve teamwork, reduce obesity rates and create a lifelong love of exercise and healthy activity. YFBCA is committed to delivering these resources to its coaches. In the coming months, working with the STOP Sports Injuries campaign, we are going to have a page on YFBCA.org dedicated to addressing the issues of sports injuries. Stay tuned.

Stageing: Protecting The Football
Stageing is the positioning of the ball during the quarterback's drop back, prior to the start of the delivery. It is important for the quarterback to be able to protect the ball in the drop back, while having the ball in a position that allows for the quickest possible delivery.

Proper Sideline Behavior
Parents are such a crucial part of a young athlete's training, development, and longevity. Often times it is the support of the parents that serves as the key ingredient in the recipe of a young athlete's success. Whether it's shuttling their children to practice, being the "te am mom", or cheering on the team at every game, it's always a great feeling as an athlete to have the support of your parents. Unfortunately, there is a population of parents who are unable to distinguish support from audacity.
There's always one in every crowd; the overzealous parent who "knows" their child is levels above all of the other competitors and will stop at nothing until they see their child's name in a SportsCenter highlight. Not only does this reflect upon the parent, but also the team, and even worse, the child. Although the parent may think that they have their child's best interest at heart, reenacting a Jim Mora press conference does not convey that. Vulgar actions like these take away from the innocence of youth athletics. Yes, it is important for young athletes to be pushed to compete, but for the most part that has to come from within. It's called self-motivation for a reason.
Parents - realize that you are playing a supporting role, not a starting one. |
