Greetings!
Check out the following training centers that have partnered with BMW:
BMW Motorrad USA Teams Up With California Superbike School to Offer Rider Training on the S 1000 RR
Thanks to a partnership between BMW Motorrad USA and the California Superbike School, riders will have the opportunity to unleash the power of the most potent, sophisticated and lightest sportbike ever produced -- under the guidance of trained professionals. Beginning in 2010, BMW's S 1000 RR superbike will be available at training sessions offered by Keith Code's California Superbike School.
The school has 48 events scheduled at race tracks around the country beginning in March. Riders will have the option of using their own bike or renting one of the school's 2010 BMW S 1000 RR motorcycles for one- or two-day training sessions.
"We would not be content offering a motorcycle as powerful as the S 1000 RR without access to top-shelf rider training," said Todd Andersen, BMW Motorrad USA Marketing Manager. "We want S 1000 RR riders to have the skills and confidence to maximize their ownership experience with this state-of-the-art superbike."

BMW has partnered with RawHyde Adventures to serve as their West Coast Enduro training facility.
RawHyde has been deeply involved in the BMW GS market for several years and they are both an authentic adventure company and the " real deal" when it comes to teaching our customers how to use their GS's the way they were designed to be ridden.
RawHyde is located just north of Los Angeles at the western edge of the Mojave desert. This location allows RawHyde to offer their training programs year-round, and when the weather is cold elsewhere in the country the Mojave desert can be a very enticing place to learn to ride a GS.
RawHyde has a 500 acre special purpose enduro training facility which is 100% dedicated to teaching adventure motorcyclists how to ride "heavy bikes" off road. Participation in a RawHyde program is all inclusive. They have a dining hall and accommodations on their property and their food is both plentiful and delicious.

Many of our customers, and a few of our employees, have attended a RawHyde course so stop in and we'll share the experiences we enjoyed at this great school.

What's new in the Parts Department Featured Products
What's New?
S1000RR Accessories - We now carry Rhino frame sliders (or fairing savers!) for your S1000RR. They're in stock now, plus the axle and swing arm sliders are on the way! We also have some very special Michelin Power One 2CT Tires for the ultimate in track / street legal performance. Of course there are some great new BMW goodies like the rear set adjustable foot peg kit, rear tail bag, pillion cover, pillion pegs (yep!), folding levers, tank bag, slip-on exhausts by Akrapovic and Two Brothers, as well as complete exhaust systems for racing applications. And remember, if you see something new online, give us a call and we'll get it for you (availability may vary - there's a lot out there that's in production and not shipping yet). As a gentle reminder to all who have taken delivery, please read your owners manual fully, especially the initial break-in information.
F650GS Sealed AGM Battery - Finally! We now carry a maintenance-free battery for your F650GS Single. No more tip-over leaks or checking the levels. A standard Battery Tender type charger can be used as this is an AGM type (absorbed glass-mat lead acid). The best part? They don't cost any more than the standard lead acid battery!
New Apparel - We have just started to receive our spring riding apparel shipments which will include brand new designs of riding apparel from Revit and BMW! One of the most anticipated suits coming down the pipeline is the Sand by Rev'it (Sand is in-stock now!). Another big design change is with the BMW Rallye 3. We'll also be seeing new leathers, boots and helmets by early March. Stay tuned and keep your eyes open for future email updates on these items and other new accessories. As our product lines continue to evolve, we'll continue to offer them in a broad range of price points, to fit any budget!
New Helmets - Starting next week, we'll be receiving our first batch of the brand new RF1100, X12 and Hornet helmets from Shoei. If you haven't owned a Shoei Helmet in the past, or you have an older model, these latest designs deliver uncompromised quality, fit and finish, and are definitely worth a look

Tech Tip of the Month
Pre-ride checklists
March is here and hopefully, as the temperature and daylight hours increase, so will the miles we're putting on our bikes. A couple of things to make your riding season successful are a pre-ride checklist and some preparation. If you haven't charged your motorcycle's battery in a while, get that charger on there before your battery is damaged from sitting with a low state of charge. A battery's life span is three to five years if properly maintained, so if your battery is giving you fits, consider it's age and get it tested to make sure a replacement isn't necessary. We have just received a new BMW battery tester that in most cases will give a test result without a preliminary charge; instant results if you will.
Most of you should have some form of pre-ride checks that you perform; lights, oil, tire pressure, gas; the basics. Even if all those things were fine at the beginning of your ride, maybe you picked up a nail on the way home? I see far too many flat tires come into the shop with nails or just air loss from sitting. You might be able to spot that oil leak but even the sharpest of eyes wont be able to see the air escaping from a tire over winter. Riding on an under-inflated tire is unsafe and will damage the tire as well.
As always, I hope every ride is enjoyable, and don't hesitate to come in for tips and answers to any questions you can dream up.

A message from our owners: A special "Thank You" to our customers!
You are an interesting bunch---our customers. Certainly unlike the customer base of most other motorcycle dealerships. This was pointed out to us again at the BMW Dealer meeting that was held during the last week of January in Florida.
A recap was given regarding the plight of the motorcycle industry in this country, and it ain't pretty. The U.S. market is the largest in the world for motorcycles of 500cc's and up, and consequently is of tremendous importance to those brands that are doing business here. Last year was disastrous, as the market was down 41%. Individually, KTM was off 72%; Suzuki 61%; Honda 57%; Kawasaki and Suzuki 47 %; Ducati 31%; Triumph 29%; Harley Davidson 25%, and the winner, BMW was off "only" 22%. (Wayne Elston says that BMW "sucked less" than the rest of the guys). One of the reasons that BMW had a better year than most (and profitable) is that what we call "metric brands" buyers had a hard time getting financing for their motorcycles. Historically, charge type revolving credit cards have been used to purchase many of these units, with low introductory interest rates but increasing to 22% and up after one year. With the credit crunch, the lenders put a stop to this practice, resulting in tremendous lost sales for these dealerships. Incidentally, the motorcycle market is not done with the freefall yet. In 2009, 352,000 units were sold in the U.S. and only 330,000 are being forecast for 2010. BMW, however, is looking for a 23% increase, primarily as a result of the introduction of the S1000RR.
Now about our interesting customers: Ride West was up a few percentage points last year and we can attribute this to our wonderful customer base. Our motorcycle buyers are in a much stronger financial position and either have good credit or pay cash, so we did not experience the credit crunch our competitors faced. Plus, our buyers are committed. There is a passion among the BMW ranks that exists only among select other brands, and this sometimes results in our customers being more demanding than some other dealers experience. For instance, often a new bike buyer in our store will have done extensive research and know as much about the model selected as we do, so we have to have knowledgeable staff members at all times. This is one of the reasons that our employee roster is consistent year after year and employed for the entire year---our customers will settle for little else. But it is the way we like it and the reason we are in this business. If this were any other brand of motorcycle we would not be in this business.
So thank you, not only for your business, but also for making it interesting. Ann and Keith Thye
