From our Sales Staff
Many concerned customers ask us about how we're doing. With so many motorcycle dealers falling on hard times and even going out of business in this uncertain economy, we often reflect on the ways we operate, and invariably fall back on the most basic values that allow us to keep our doors open. As a single brand shop catering to true enthusiasts, naturally, we want every rider out there to experience the beauty, the workmanship, the safety, the utility, the value and, most importantly, the level of service and the community that is BMW. And, in that sense, we are doing great! BMW's current and up-coming model line-up is tremendous, and we invite all of you to experience the ride and the incredible deals that we're offering at our store. Come see these great machines live and talk to us. The path to new BMW motorcycle ownership is easier that you might think.
See you soon, and thank you for your continuing support.
Keep on riding!
Roman & John

| Greetings!
If you told me to expect the best motorcycle trip I'd had in years, that it was for only four days, that I'd only average 20mph, that I would be happpily exhausted after 7 hours of riding only 125 miles on day one, that I'd be in dire need of a hot shower, a huge meal and a cold beverage.......I'd say "No way, I ride a tankful of gas before breakfast!"
Well......I sure was wrong!
Welcome to the first annual Sasquatch Rally presented by Tom Mehren and his crew at Sound Rider. This four day rolling rally kicked off with a pre-rally get together and dinner Wednesday night at the Timberlake Campground just NW of Hood River, the official start of the ride.
Fifty four enthuastic dualsport riders enjoyed an incredible four day ride from the Washington-Oregon border to the Canadian Border. Not only was the route designed to take advantage of some of the most scenic countryside that our state has to offer, it was primarly routed on Forest Service roads that twisted their way north along the crest of the Cascades. I actually lost track of the number of times we crossed the "Pacific Crest Trail". From high mountain passes to ice caves and hidden meadows, plus a few secret single lane, tarmac twisties that Tom threw in just for a break, this route had it all!
This is topo country, and you had better be good with a map and/or have a decent GPS to navigate by. Tom Mehren pre-ran the four day route then provided the GPS waypoints and a 40 page printed guide book. (Hint: Tom still has a few of these books (including GPS routes) left but I'm sure they won't last so Click Here to snag one!
Ride West BMW and BMW of North America are proud to sponsor this AMA sanctioned Dualsport Adventure Series and joining in the fun was our northwest regional rep Eric Glazer and factory rider Helli Kornton.
Well......I'm not thinking about if I want to do this again next year......I'm counting the days, and I can't wait until we are again somewhere high in the Cascades searching for the elusive Sasquatch!

Did You Know?
We love old airheads and K bikes!
These classic bikes sometimes require a bit more tender loving care, and in years prior, our service department has charged a premium for "airhead" & pre '94 K Series bikes. As a result of this policy we have seen fewer and fewer of these bikes in for service.
Well....it's time for a change! For the month of October we are cutting our service labor on these models by a whopping 30%!

Parts Swap - One Day Only - Sat. Oct 24th Great Deals on Gear, Parts, and Accessories!
Important Reminder
Option #1 - Sell your used parts and apparel! It's a sellers market at the fall Parts and Apparel Swap, especially this year as returning swappers are all looking for that end of season deal. This is the perfect opportunity to unload all your good used items that have been taking up extra space in the closet or garage. Turn it into cash for the holidays! We accept drop-offs for the swap starting Tuesday, October 20th. You can bring items by as late as the day of the swap, but it will be nuts on that Saturday so we recommend dropping off all items you want to sell by Friday evening, October 23rd. The details: We charge a modest 20% consignment fee only on items that sell at the swap (a great deal considering you don't have to haggle with Craig's listers coming to the house). Simply pickup unsold items the following week, if there's anything left. We'll do our best to sell your gear and issue a check for the items that sold - within 7 business days after the event. This one day sale usually lags a few days into the following week, so we have extended our pickup deadline to October 31st. Did I mention Otis's BBQ? Option #2 - Buy great used gear at amazing prices! It's a mad dash for the good stuff at every fall Parts and Apparel Swap from the moment the clock strikes 9:00am! At this special event, you'll find everything from helmets to final drives, rain suits to boots, mirrors, saddle bags, headlights, gloves. Who knows what will show up? But one thing's for sure - people are clearing out their garages and need to sell off stuff they no longer need, which means deals and more deals. Remember, parts prices of items brought in by our customers are set buy the seller at drop off and are non-negotiable.
-
Come early and get while the gettin's good!
-
It's always a mixed bag which makes each parts swap one not to miss.
-
Did I mention Otis's BBQ? Chow down with his famous breakfast and lunch!
-
This is THE place to find the perfect "Farkel", part, or piece of apparel you've been looking for.
Bring your gear in beginning Wednesday the 21st, so we can check it in, because by Saturday morning at 9am it's a zoo and the good stuff always goes fast! For more info call us at 206-527-5511 or Click Here

What's new in the Parts Department Featured Products
Giant Year End Clearance!
Speaking of great deals, October 1st marks the beginning of our (early) year-end inventory clearance sale! And despite popular belief, there is an upside to a down economy. Although most businesses (including ours) have a bit more inventory than they need, it creates an amazing opportunity for customers to save money on items they've always wanted. I can't tell you about all the deals we'll have throughout the end of the year (no really, legally I can't!). But as many of you already know, the sale tables are already out and will have a rotation of sale items at the best prices ever on select riding gear for both men and women, and select accessories like windscreens, electrical gadgets and tank bags! We'll have rotating sale items every two weeks throughout the next several months with deals simply too good to pass up. So stop by often and check out the latest. Of course all sale items are limited to stock on hand. More October Specials 20% off all books, maps and DVD's! - Plan your next trip or stay in for a classic biker flick and save a few bucks in the process! We've extended this popular sale through the end of October. Here comes the holidays!

Tech Tip of the Month
Why extend your factory warranty?
This month, I'd like to discuss BMW's warranty and the cost benefits of extending the warranty beyond the standard. BMW Motorrad has the best coverage in the motorcycle business; three years or 36,000 miles. Under normal usage that is a long time, but we're BMW riders, and are known to ride the wheels off our bikes! Before you know it, the warranty period is over.
This isn't the worst thing in the world, but if you have owned anything mechanical for a long period of time you know that sometimes things happen and the costs seem to be unavoidable. I'm here to tell you that these costs can be avoidable with some foresight and investment in an extended warranty.
Speak with our Finance & Insurance expert David Lenton to extend your warranty before you pass that 3-year or 36,000 mile mark though. A recent cautionary tale: one of our customers realized this week that he wanted to extend his warranty but was just 124 miles beyond his factory warranty after two years and is now unable to extend it.
We have options for you if you are planning to keep your bike for the long haul and, like myself, have cycles over 40,000 and even 50,000 miles and no plans to park or sell them anytime soon.
LONG LIVE OUR MOTORCYCLES!

A message from our owners: Great Rides in the Northwest
David Swezey, Ride West's General Manager, is putting together some promotional material and asked us the other day to list our five favorite rides within a 500 mile radius of the dealership. We said "no problem" and set to work, assuming this to be a simple and enjoyable task. Well, it was enjoyable, but certainly not simple. And the reason is because we have too many to choose from.
We have often said, and you may have seen it appear in some of our advertising, that Ride West has some of the best riding in the country within this 500 mile radius. Expand this to 750 miles, to include Northern California, and it just multiplies this statement.
So we set upon the task.
-
Seattle to Whistler and on through Lillooet to Jasper and the Canadian Rockies, back down to Glacier and 20 back to Seattle.
-
Or wind around Northwest Oregon (Enterprise and Hells Canyon) and Southwest Washington.
-
Or 20 east to 395 south through Oregon, heading west to Ashland via Dead Indian road and up the Oregon coast.
-
Or 20 to Sandpoint, then south through Idaho and the backside of the Sawtooth's to Sun Valley and return via the backroads of Oregon.
-
Or Shaniko, Antelope, John Day, Long Creek, etc.
-
Or Mt. Rainier and St. Helens to Carson and the Columbia Gorge.
-
Or lots of those crazy little one lane roads that criss-cross between I-5 and the Oregon coast.
-
Or how about French Glen and the Steens Mountains.
-
Or all of that neat stuff around Crater Lake, Medford and Roseburg.
-
Maybe the Clackamas river up to Sisters and those little twisty ribbons around the backside of Mt. Hood.
And then we need to think about all of those wonderful , crazy, sweet rides through Northern California.
All hell, we can't decide. You choose.
Ann and Keith Thye
