What's new in the Parts Department Featured Products
Thank You,For supporting your local motorcycle dealers! - Your continued support and enthusiasm for motorcycling helps keep locally owned dealers like us in business. It also enables us to employ knowledgeable motorcycle enthusiasts to help you with all of your motorcycle needs, and allows us to stock a large selection of inventory right in the store. Like many of you in your professions, our business is flat this year, so we know that the only way for us to thrive is to work harder to provide you with the best service and selection. We will continue to work smarter and strive to find new ways to meet and exceed your expectations. Hopefully we've risen to the challenge. On a more personal note, many of you know me on a first name basis and know that I greatly appreciate your loyalty to the brand and to Ride West. You probably also know that I've been in the retail game a long time. So, we all know that shopping online, or at a "big box" motorcycle retailer is very tempting. Heck, we even have an online store! But did you ever wonder what things were like before these stores were around? Well, for starters, there were more jobs, and a lot more local businesses. But as I look around now, I see a different picture. My point is I have a great appreciation for you, our customers. I have been lucky enough to get to know you, serve you, sell to you, and sometimes just chat with you. I hope you'll continue to see the bigger picture of our economy, and thanks again for your business. I always welcome your comments. Revit Gloves - Just in time for summer, Revit has released a few new gloves that have sparked our interest. First off, a brand new GP race glove called the Jerez. This top quality glove screams protection and has tons of great features like reversed, outside stitched seams (for ultimate comfort), plenty of Kevlar, hard knuckle and wrist bone protection, and a double cuff that protects the wrist strap from opening up in the event. Next is the Comet. This wonder glove is the perfect summer street or dual sport shorty glove with plenty of protection, heavy on the comfort. Constructed of leather and an elasticized nylon, it features hard knuckle protection and warm weather comfort. Its sportier big brother, the Airvolution, sports carbon fiber knuckles, perforated leather, and takes a cue from the Jerez with its outside stitched seams. Cool stuff for summer, on or off the track. Revit Ignition Jacket / Gear Pant - One of our favorite pieces of gear, this summer riding suit is constructed out of leather and mesh, but has the versatility of a year-round riding suit. It comes with water and windproof liners which allow you to wear it well into the fall riding season. The jacket also comes with a thermal vest. What we really like about it is its looks. It still has that classic "leathers" appearance. Sizing for both men and women is available. Coming Soon Scorpion Sports Transformer Helmet - From Scorpion Helmets: The EXO-900 Transformer! It's a full featured, full face helmet with a retractable sun visor and anti-fog shield. But wait, there's more! It's also a flip face helmet! But wait, there's more! The chin bar can be removed which converts the helmet to a 3/4 open face helmet! We should be taking delivery of the new EXO-900 within a few weeks so keep an eye out for this innovative, versatile new lid. July Special

Tech Tip of the Month
Is it time for a checkup?
Chains, sprockets and center stands, oh my!
Ten years ago BMW had one bike with a chain, now there's a half dozen. With a chain drive comes much more maintenance than a shaft or belt drive. It's not hard but a must if the life and longevity of the chain and sprockets are to be retained. A drive chain should be checked regularly and lubed every 500 miles and more so if you are riding in the rain. I know this sounds like overkill but it's the difference between a chain and sprocket lasting 4,000 miles or 20,000 miles and at $500 dollars or so to replace, (that's right, they're not warrantable) it's a valuable investment of your time and effort.
With a center stand your time and effort are significantly reduced and a good idea for any service operation. If your cycle doesn't have one we can put a genuine BMW center stand on for you. If you have any questions about the parts involved or the type of drive your cycle has please don't hesitate to contact us, we are always ready to help.
See you soon,
Mark Eddy

A message from our owners: New Referral Program?
This is an interesting business---owning a motorcycle dealership. Seems like it is always feast or famine: we have too much inventory or we do not have enough; we are in love with our supplier(s) or they just did a number on us; it's summer, the weather is good and we are putting money in the bank or it's winter and we are trying to keep the lights on; the economy is going crazy (late 1990's) or it's in the tank (now). But life goes on and so does the business.
An analysis of an entity leads to a conclusion that any business is really quite simple in that there are only three things that can be controlled: sales (revenue), gross margins (revenue minus cost) and expenses (of which personnel is normally about 60% to 70%). The problem is that each factor affects the other and getting the right balance is the important element. But none of it can happen without sales. And in this business, the sale of new motorcycles is the predominant issue. When we sell new motorcycles we often take a trade-in, leading to a used bike sale. The buyer often needs parts, accessories and apparel, as well as ongoing service needs which fuels our growth.
The point of this missive is that in this struggling economy we need just what we have been talking about---sales. And particularly sales of new BMW motorcycles. So we have an offer we hope you can just not refuse. Any individual bringing in a customer that purchases a new BMW motorcycle from Ride West BMW will receive a $200 gift card good for anything in the store (including service). Only one gift card will be awarded for any sale (no fair ganging up on us), but if someone brings in multiple buyers then the gift card offer extends to each new bike sold. This offer is good through September 30, 2009 and may be extended if it proves as successful as we hope.
So, we are asking you to help us sell motorcycles. After all, our satisfied customers are our best advertisement and we hope that this "finders fee" is a benefit to all of us. And thanks in advance for helping us out. Ann and Keith Thye
