Tech Tip of the Month

It's time to make that appointment!

New Winter HoursIt's officially summer now, and so it's busy, busy, busy over here in the Ride West Service Department!

As you plan for your summer trips, it is important to plan accordingly  for the proper maintenance before you leave.  There's nothing worse than planning for the perfect adventure, assuming that you can fit in a quick tune-up or tire change only to find that Ride West is booked solid.  Even worse, you may have planned ahead and scheduled your service, but too close to your planned departure date, and once our BMW certified technician gets started they find that your bike needs some extra work.  Parts may need to be ordered, and with a full schedule, trying to fit a bigger service job in can also be a challenge, so now there's no possibility of leaving by your planned departure date.

Don't let this happen to you!  Plan ahead and call now to schedule your service 2-3 weeks before your anticipated departure date. Looking forward to helping get you out there having fun on some great new roads.

See you soon,

Mark Eddy
Service Manager

A message from our owners:

BMW builds motorcycles?

Ann & Keith Thye
We were at an event at the store a few weeks ago and got into a nice, long conversation with an instructor from Puget Sound Safety which offers motorcycle riding courses throughout the region, including novice, dirt bike, intermediate and advanced training as well as motorcycle care and maintenance courses.  We entered into a discussion about the image that BMW motorcycles has among the general public, and of course the first emitance from him was that the public says "I didn't know that BMW makes motorcycles".  We have all heard this before.  Then the next question asked is "Now that you know BMW makes motorcycles, how much do you think they cost?"  And more often than not the answer is "about $25,000".

Then we entered into a discussion about the instructors personal motorcycle purchase and the reasons for it.  He admitted that he did not consider a BMW because of his perception of the cost, which was similar to the general public's thinking.  He looked at the FJR and the ST1300, and ended purchasing one of them.

A few months after his purchase we took several BWW's to a MSF instructor training day, a Sunday afternoon where the teachers were able to ride a variety of our bikes.  His final comment was interesting.  Paraphrasing, he said that he loved the BMW's, particularly the K1300S.  On his own bike he added heated grips,  heated seat, trip computer and a few other features.  His final statement was that in the end he would have been better off buying the BMW which had all of these options as standard features plus a three year warranty.

As a BMW dealer, one of our main challenges is to inform the public, and further, to educate the riding public, that BMW makes the safest and finest motorcycles in the world, and that they are competitively priced and affordable.  We have made progress, but we still can not see the finish line.
