Let the riding season begin!  Every year this event just keeps growing and it's always a huge success! Lots of riders find just the bike they want and lots of sellers are amazed at how easy it is to sell their bikes.

Find your new bike or sell your old one at our Spring Bike Swap! From BMW to KTM, Suzuki, Harley, Guzzi, Ducati...A huge selection of pre-owned motorcycles will be on hand!  Stop by and check out all the great deals on all brands, and kinds of motorcycles.

If you have a bike to sell, give us a call. We charge a minimal consignment fee and will handle all the details for you. If your bike doesn't sell, Ride West may purchase it or consign it on the spot, or you can simply pick it up at the end of the event and pay Sell Your Bike!nothing!

Unlike in years past, this years Bike Swaps, (which will be held in March, July, and November) are scheduled for Fridays from 12-6 PM and Saturdays from 9-5 PM.

Of course Otis will be cookin' up some smokin' BBQ both days and my favorite pancake and sausage breakfast on Saturday.

Mark's Tech Tip for March:

It's now March and we've seen what a couple of beautiful days do to our beloved cycles; it gets them out on the road!  Along with the thoughts and ideas of riding off into the many sunsets of summer, keeping our bikes in great running condition should be active in our minds. The window of little-to-no-wait in our Service Department is getting smaller and smaller each day. Once May and June roll around there will inevitably be longer waiting times for repairs, so get what you need now and wave to us as you ride by on your way to that sunset.

New Feature - "Install of the Month"

Beginning with March's e-newsletter, we'll be featuring our new service segment entitled "Install of the Month".  This months install happens to be on our GM's new F800GS (and yes he's been waiting almost a year to get his ride!)

 Here are a few pictures:

This is Dave Swezey's (Our GM) new ride, a 2009 F 800 GS.  At the time there weren't and forward mountedPIIA Custom mount for F800GS light brackets available so Dana in our shop had to fabricate these from scratch. Along with the Centech accessory fuse bank,  and quite a few other aftermarket items, we transformed this cycle Centechinto Dave's own one-of-a-kind custom steed. Come on in and take a look and let us design something that you can call your own.

                                                   Featured Products:

T-shirts - We now have our Ride West short and long sleeve t-shirts back in stock (finally), with the same great designs you already know.  We love seeing them on you and greatly appreciate the support!

New BMW Riding Gear is Here! - From casual to world tour, we've got you covered with the new BMW line of riding gear.  The newest and brightest suit in the 2009 collection is the BMW Trailguard, the replacement for the Santiago.  With new, off-road inspired styling and excellent functionality, this dual sport suit is made from strong, highly abrasion resistant and street-friendly Dynatec.  Similar to the Santiago, it uses a removable liner system for true 4-season versatility.  Next is the brand new Airflow 4.  Again, new colors, armor, and great warm weather functionality.  A must-have for summer (whenever it gets here!).  There's also a new Streetguard 3, Airshell summer jacket (Hi-Viz) and more new base layers to complete the package.  It's all still in boxes, but we should have it all out on the floor within a week or so.

Tools and Shop Supplies - Attention all do-it-your-self-ers!  Do you think $95 is a bit pricey for the factory oil filter wrench for your new K1200 or R1200?  Yeah, so do we!  That's why we now stock the super high quality, low cost alternative from Ilium.   We also carry a wide selection of compact, light weight tool sets perfect for carrying on your bike, as well as full shop set ups for those bigger jobs and projects.  Stop by and have a look at the Proxxon box wrench and socket kits, Bike Master multi tools, Park Tool folding Torx driver sets, Motion Pro chain tools, and many more highly functional and very useful items to help you tackle any project with confidence.

Select BMW Apparel - It's that time again!  Starting in late March we will be receiving some brand new BMW riding gear that will raise the bar (again) on the industry standard for safety, function and fashion.

Why is this important right now?  Because we have just added several discontinued (and highly sought after) styles from the 2008 BMW clothing line to our sale rack - at rock bottom pricing!  No, really!  We mean rock bottom pricing! Many of you have been waiting for the right time, and it is now!  These select items go on sale today, for the first time, and are available on a first come, first serve basis, limited to stock on hand (they are closeouts, so you will want to make sure you come in to be fitted, as all sales are final).  See store for details.

Windscreens and Exhaust - We are extending our promotion through the end of March! Looking to breathe new life into that whisper quiet BMW? How about a free-flowing, full tilt exhaust?!?  Or would you prefer a bit more wind protection on those sub 32 degree mornings?  Save 15% off all aftermarket windscreens and exhaust systems in stock.  Now through 3/1/2009 and supply is limited!!! See store for details or ask your Ride West BMW parts representative.

Adaptiv Radar Detector - We now carry radar detectors specifically designed for motorcycles! Latest Radar Technology Adaptiv technologies has developed a water, shock and vibration resistant detector with audio out, optional LED visual alert, large and easy to use backlit buttons and angled display.  We're not suggesting you speed when you're riding your new K1300S, but it might not be a bad idea to have some help identifying the friendly folks in charge.

SPOT Personal Satellite Messenger - GS'ers listen up!  SPOT is the SPOT Personal Location Systemworld's first satellite messenger and has the capability of sending your exact GPS coordinates (and selected messages) to tell others of your location and status!  It works around the world, nearly everywhere and is independent of cellular networks.  It can send "9-1-1" alerts via satellite (if you're really in trouble), "Help" alerts if you need a friend to come dig you out of the mud, "OK" alerts to let your family know you're doing well (via email, web or text services), and with SPOT-Casting, you can upload sequential waypoints, saving your trip progress using Google Maps for real time trip progress!  Water and shock resistant.  Requires subscription (no contract and can be activated and deactivated per trip!).  There are even optional services that will include emergency extraction in countries without emergency services.  So go remote on bike, water craft or snow machine.  This is the must-have, quintessential adventure gadget!

VholdR Video Camera - Experience the next generation on-bike video camera!  Simple one-button operation and built-in microphone takes all the guesswork out of capturing all the action.  It's sleek and modern design mounts easily to the handlebars or helmet, records on a flash SD card and boasts TV quality video.  Rechargeable / removable battery gives approximately 2 hours of recording time.  Includes direct portal software to upload your videos directly to You Tube!  Small enough to travel with and includes USB charging cable / adapter.  We will also have extra batteries / wall chargers available within a week or so.  Memory card included!

Message from the Owner
To Our Valued Customers:

This will be an interesting year around here.  Our industry , like the general economy, is in turmoil.  BMW was the only major motorcycle manufacturer that had an increase of units in 2008 over 2007, albeit slight at 0.6%.  The other brands were all down: Kawasaki -2.5%; Ducati -3.4%; Triumph -5.6%; Victory -5.7%; Yamaha -9.0%; Honda -10.4%; Harley/Buell -12.8%; Suzuki -17.4% and KTM -20.6%.  And things are not likely to improve much this year for most of these companies.  This scenario is already beginning to have an impact on our local motorcycle community.  University Honda/Yamaha in downtown Seattle was the first casualty, closing its doors for good in late January.  Others will follow, as well as many dealerships downsizing by reducing square footage or limiting the brands they carry.

As you can see from the numbers above, BMW was the brand to be involved with last year.  And BMW is looking for a slight gain in units sold again in 2009 over 2008. The reason for this is that BMW has recently introduced some models (G650GS, F650GS and F800GS) that have yet to "fill the pipeline".  Additionally, two upgraded units have just been introduced, the K1300S and the K1300GT.  Looking at these two bikes compared with last year's models, the K1200's, you will see little difference.  But under the skin of these bikes are a myriad of enhancements, as you will read elsewhere in this newsletter.  And then in January/February of 2010, the BMW S1000RR Superbike will be introduced to the US retail environment. Look for this motorcycle on the big-time racing circuits throughout this year---BMW is expecting great things from this bike.

So there you have it.  A lousy economy but we are going to be here for you.  And better yet, we hope to thrive.

Ann & Keith Thye
