Ride the Alps!  Slideshow, Thur. Feb 26th

Our second winter slideshow is being presented by Lane and Shelly Roehl. Here are few words about their exciting "High Alpine Tour".

Lane & Shelly RoehlBeware! An innocent presentation about a European motorcycle tour at your neighborhood BMW store can lead to the adventure of a lifetime!

"Wow!" thought Lane and Shelley Roehl. "We'd sure like to do that someday," after watching a slide show at Ride West BMW. "Someday" happened in June 2008 when they participated in the Edelweiss High Alpine Tour through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy.

As Lane navigated the meadow-lined rolling hills of Bavaria,Summer in the Alps! Shelley started snapping pictures from the back of the bike. The picture taking didn't stop until the snow-lined Edelweiss Spitze in Austria had literally taken their breath away. Going up, then DOWN,

48 Hairpin Turns!Passo del Stelvio was a lesson in marital trust. A picnic in the Swiss Alps formed new friendships. The Italian Dolomites are both beautiful and mysterious.

Join Lane and Shelley on Thursday February 26th  as they share their motorcycle adventure. Who knows? Your "someday" could happen to you.

The show begins with appetizers at 7pm, lively conversation, catching up with friends and meeting new ones, then at 7:30 we begin the slideshow.  We have limited seating, so please call early to register (206-527-5511).  Tickets are $10.00 per person.

We look forward to seeing you,

Do you ride any of the "other" brands of motorcycles? So do we. Although our techs have been loyal employees, and certified BMW technicians for several years, they did start their careers working on the "other" brands.

We would like to make Ride West BMW more of a personal shop for you and all your motorcycles. Tires, oil changes and other minor operations would be welcomed on a case by case basis at our service manager's discretion. Please feel free to call, e-mail or come on in and talk with Mark to schedule your next service on your "other" brands!

Mark's Tech Tip For February:

With the rainy season almost behind us, (positive thinking everyone) it's about time to flush out that old brake fluid that has absorbed a years worth of moisture. All brakes with rubber lines need to be flushed once a year, and brakes with steel lines get flushed every two years. If you're wonderingABS Diagram about your motorcycle e-mail us at service@ridewest or call and we'll find out exactly what we need to do to return your brake system to its most effective state.

Message from the Owner
To Our Valued Customers:

Back in November of 1996 BMW introduced the F650 Funduro.  Many of the BMW motorcycle dealers across the country were not enthused about the bike---they did not feel it was a BMW because it was chain driven and it was smaller displacement than what they were used to.  Consequently, they wrote it off.  We, however, embraced it.  To find out if the bike was any good, we took it on a two-up, 6000 mile trip through the Southwest and returned very excited about the bike.  We then arranged for Helge Pedersen to give it credence by using it for some of his trips.  And then we had the bright idea of offering it to service customers waiting while their bike was in the shop.  And, hence, the birth of the service loaner program.

We knew of no other dealers doing this at the time.  We soon became one of the premier F650 retailers in the country because our customers loved the bike on their trial runs and ended up purchasing one. A few other dealers caught the fever and a few years later BMW Motorrad began offering a subsidy for those dealers with a service loaner program.  It worked well for many years.  But times change, and the economies of doing business have affected BMW and they are no longer able to help us financially with this program.

Initially we were going to discontinue service loaners, but the push-back from our customer base has been considerable.  In today's financial environment we are not able to fund a complete new bike service loaner program having lost the subsidy (we have had up to eight bikes in the service loaner fleet).  So we will attempt to build our fleet using good, used BMW units that come our way.  It will take us some time to build the fleet, and you will not end up with a new high powered unit as in the past few years, but we will do everything we can to ensure that we have a "ride" for you the day your bike is in the shop. Please bear with us.  Thank You.
