Since the first commercial aired for the iPhone I have been intrigued by this uniquely different phone. More recently I have been interested in the available applications. I've heard people say, "The iPhone is great if you want to have fun but for business you're better off with a Blackberry." Wanting to see if the iPhone could possibly compete on the business side of things I made a trip to my local Apple Store and spent countless hours on the iTunes store searching business and productivity applications. Here is what I found.
 
Business Apps
 
Quickoffice-Winning the Best Business Application by CTIA Wireless in 2009 and a finalist for the Most Innovative Mobile Application, this app really packs a punch. It provides superior Microsoft Word AND Excel functionality without having to wait until you get back to the office. You can also access iPhone email attachments from any email program. Cost: $12.99.
 
QuickVoice2Text Email (PRO Recorder)-This recorder has SpinVox voice-to-text email so you can speak and send perfect text emails using just voice and a few taps. This has been called "The Most Exciting iPhone App Update EVER!" by "What's On iPhone." Cost: $.99 (You read that right-just $.99)
 
DocScanner-Take a picture of any document and as long as the background is darker than the document the application will crop, rotate and correct the perspective for you. I can already think of about 20 uses for this application. Cost:$9.99
 
Remote Desktop Lite-This app will remotely access a PC running Windows XP Professional. You can have full, secure access to your work computer through wifi or the phone's network. As a frequent traveler I was thrilled to find this app! Cost: FREE
 
This is a small sample of some of the business apps that are available. The iPhone may be fun but it has shown that it's a real contender when it comes to business as well. And I've heard it can keep the kids quiet on a long trip. That's a great bonus!
