| Barefoot Sunday-June 5 |
Bring your gently used or new shoes for Soles4Souls, an international organization that redistributes shoes throughout the world. Some shoes stay in our own neighborhood, some will be sent to Haiti, some to Japan, some to South America and some to Africa. Where there are bare-feet in need of protection, our shoes will go. Visit www.soles4souls.org for more information.

Three cheers to our new webmaster Mike McNew who has updated and refreshed our website (some mighty big shoes he had to step into with the passing of our brother in Christ Bruce Hilman!). Our website is now linked to our Facebook page. Please visit the new site and let us know what you think: Saint John's Web Site

| Practice the Tithe Sunday, June 12 | On Sunday, June 12 there will be a special offering as we practice the tithe. We are called to prayerfully consider what we earn in one week and then make a special offering of 10% of that back to God. Our budget goal is $4,200.
This affords us an opportunity to live into the biblical mandate and all that it implies while providing the Church with needed funds for the long summer months.
Annual earnings of $52,000 a year translates to $1,000 a week. 10% of that is $100. What does that $100 represent for you during the week? And, can you forgo what you would purchase that week in order to participate in mission and ministry Christ calls us to do? A venti Starbucks Frappacino costs $4,57. Giving up one a day for a week = $32 and gets you a third of the way to a week's tithe. As you prayerfully consider how you will participate in this year's Practice the Tithe, how do you see your relationship with God changing, growing, becoming more dependant on God's grace and abundance and less dependant on material gain or possessions?
A week's tithe of $100 covers a third of the annual budget of $300 for Children's Ministry. If we hit our target of $4,200 for the total Practice the Tithe offerings, we will completely fund Parish Life and Ministry for a year including the ReVision action items for 2011.
Practice the Tithe, then, is not an intellectual exercise but an opportunity for spiritual growth and participation in vital and life-giving ministries. Together we strive to do, be and act as the People of God with our time, our talent and our treasure. |
