Hello dear friends!
It's fall and if you're in the parts of the country with changing weather, then you're feeling the coolness already starting. I love this time of year when the air just seems a little bit fresher and cleaner! But enough about the weather, let's talk about the this month's topic: Alternative vs Allpathic medicine. (Due to a September vacation, this newsletter is a bit tardy - my apologies for that)!

I'd like to start off with a few paragraphs from the modern version of the Hippocratic oath (a few sections have been omitted for brevity). Note particularly the text in bold:
"I
swear in the presence of the Almighty
and before my family, my teachers and my peers that according to
my ability and judgment I will keep this Oath and Stipulation.
To
reckon all who have taught me this art equally dear to me as
my parents and in the same spirit and dedication to impart a knowledge
of the art of medicine to others. I will continue with diligence
to keep abreast of advances in medicine. I will treat without exception
all who seek my ministrations, so long as the treatment of others
is not compromised thereby, and I will seek the counsel of particularly
skilled physicians where indicated for the benefit of my patient.
I
will follow that method of treatment which according to my ability
and judgment, I consider for the benefit of my patient and abstain
from whatever is harmful or mischievous. ...[will uphold] the utmost respect
for every human life from fertilization to natural death and reject
abortion that deliberately takes a unique human life.
Into whatever patient setting I enter, I will go for the benefit
of the sick and will abstain from every voluntary act of mischief
or corruption...
While
I continue to keep this Oath unviolated may it be granted to
me to enjoy life and the practice of the art and science of medicine
with the blessing of the Almighty and respected by my peers and
society, but should I trespass and violate this Oath, may the reverse
be my lot."

Why did I start this newsletter with portions of the Hippocratic Oath? Just to remind all of us, including myself, that a physician's primary responsibility is to help others and avoid anything knowingly harmful.
While I don't doubt the sincerity of many who are practicing medicine today, and medicine does have it's limited place and benefits in our society, it is a known fact that drugs, be they prescription or recreational, CAUSE HARM!
To illustrate this point, I've included a very small amount of material from an article entitled: VITAMINS VERSUS DRUGS SAFETY AND EFFECTIVENESS by Dr. Andrew W. Saul "No one
in their right mind, or wrong mind, wants harmful side effects. Adverse drug
events are routinely accepted and heroically endured, even though, reports the
Associated Press, more
than 1.5 million Americans are injured every year by drug errors in hospitals,
nursing homes and doctor's offices, a count that doesn't even estimate patients'
own medication mix-ups. . . On average, a
hospitalized patient is subject to at least one medication error per
day. More
than
100,000 patients annually die, just in the USA, from drugs properly prescribed
and taken as directed.
On the other hand, a review
of poison control center reports reveals that vitamins have been connected with
the deaths of a total of ten people in the United States. . . over the last twenty-three years.
The American
Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC), which maintains the USA's
national database from 61 poison control centers, alleges the following number
of deaths from vitamins in each given year:
100,000 deaths x 23 (years) = 2,300,000. 2,300,000 drug deaths versus 10 vitamin deaths
in the same 23 year period."
Scary stuff! And this does not include the millions of infirmities caused by the side effects of medications.
Short and to the point: If you can avoid medications (and most of us can), please do so. We were given a marvelous gift from God Almighty - our own bodies, and we have a duty and obligation as recipients of this gift to appreciate it, do it no harm and take care of it the best way we possibly can!
The "prescription" for the above? Eat organic, unprocessed foods as much as possible, exercise moderately, detox and keep environmentally pure while supplementing with complete, organic nutrition to ensure you're getting the nutrients your body needs and craves!
Thank you once again for your attention this month. Enjoy the fall colors and weather!
Until next month, I remain yours in your good health,
Dr. Mike
