Dear Booklovers,
Hope everybody is enjoying their time at the beach, at the park, or in an air-conditioned office! We've had a great summer here at the store, with terrific events featuring Karen Thompson Walker, Donald Ray Pollock, Joshua Henkin, and Robert Goolrick. And the summer isn't even over! #1 New York Times bestselling author Neal Stephenson will be at the store on Monday, Aug. 13 @ 7:30 pm. Get here early, as space is limited. In this issue you will get a peek at the amazing authors who are coming to the Twin Cities this fall. Additionally we are pleased to announce a brand new feature here at the store. A few times a year we will be asking local celebrities (chefs, musicians, writers) to share with us their "Must Read" book selections. The titles will be displayed in the store for a few months, easily seen, so please, come on down. Up first is local author and musician Dylan Hicks, who recommends some of his favorite music books (writing about music, writing involving music, writing by musicians). It's a terrific list. Come in to the store to check it out. Your friends at Magers & Quinn

Dylan Hicks / Music Picks

We're big fans of local musician and author Dylan Hicks. His debut novel Boarded Windows was published this year by Coffee House Press to wide acclaim, and he released a companion album DYLAN HICKS SINGS BOLLING GREENE along with it.
There are tons of great books about music, but we thought: why not turn to a local luminary who is both a writer and a musician for recommendations? So we asked Dylan, and he obliged. We will be featuring his selections here at the store for the next few months. Please come take a look! A few of his selections, along with his recommendations, are listed below. This is the first of what we hope will be come a recurring feature here at the store. A few times a year we'll ask local authors / musicians / celebrities / chefs to recommend their favorite books on a given subject, and will highlight those selections. Please let us know if you have any suggestions for whom we should ask.

Stone Arabia by Dana Spiotta

(Dylan Hicks )
|
Dylan Hicks / Music Picks #3:

Dylan Hicks / Music Picks #4:
Can't Stop Won't Stop: A History of the Hip-Hop Generation by Jeff Chang
