Take a break from shopping with some great children's literature. Kids and adults alike are welcome as Ben Kreilkamp presents his unique live performances of children's books. There will be readings on December 9 and 16, at 1:00pm. He'll start with The Chronicles of Narnia and Alice in Wonderland and even a little Edgar Allen Poe thrown in.

Ben's recent performance of Lemony Snicket at Magers and Quinn left the audience laughing hysterically. His blend of drama and literature is sure to charm you, too.

Treats will be served. Come enjoy the readings, and have a cookie or two. This will be a great holiday event for children of any age.

There are plenty of great readings at Magers and Quinn this month, including Mark Yost on football and new poetry from Richard Solly.

Dave Eggers' latest book What Is the What follows the "Lost Boys" of Sudan, the tens of thousands of children who fled the Sudanese civil war of the 1980s. After Arab militias attacked their villages, they walked hundreds of miles on a terrifying journey toward safety in refugee camps in Ethiopia.

Eggers and one of the Lost Boys, Valentino Achak Deng, went to Sudan together in 2003. Deng's story forms the basis of Egger's fascinating novel and gives us a glimpse into a terrifying world. New York Magazine called it "Nothing short of genius."

Eggers' book is only the latest of a long string of great books from the folks at McSweeney's, including Icelander, The Children's Hospital, and Arboretum by Talking Heads frontman David Byrne. We carry a full selection of McSweeney's books and their ever-popular magazine as well.

What Is the What is a great gift idea for anyone on your list who's concerned about the developing world and today's politics. Or for a literary fan who wants to keep abreast of one of today's most important writers.
