Deepening the Somatic Stream
- Continuing Development for PCC graduates -
We have all inherited an interpretation...

... of the body as bones, muscles, nerves, and biochemistry in which we see the body as a machine, controlled by a central processing unit called the brain. In this interpretation we are separate from the world, from each other, from Spirit and even from our bodies. This separation is the core wound of our times.

This interpretation of the body creates an impoverished worldview, disempowered moods, unbalanced and unsustainable lifestyles, and disconnects us from the wisdom that life offers us in every moment.

Healing this wound...

expressive bodies ...requires embodying a radical new interpretation of the "body," where what we experience of the world, of others, of Spirit, and of ourselves is deeply integrated and inseparable. This integration offers us a rich vein of self-knowledge, freedom, and wisdom for living balanced and sustainable lives. This healing interpretation will free us from self-limiting habits and open us to flow freely with life and connect profoundly with others.

Embodying this reinterpretation is not easy. The construction of our consumer economy, industrial workplaces, and the utilization of natural resources reinforce the separation. This is not solo work, but community work.

This course offers an opportunity...

deepening large ... to engage the edges of your own somatic development in a community of practice through provocative, experiential exercises

... to learn powerful ways to make somatic assessments, offer somatic distinctions, and design somatic practices to support the development of your clients

... to develop a deeper somatic presence in your own life and in your coaching practice.

This program is especially designed for graduates who had peaked interest in working with the body, following the PCC. These three questions form the central inquiry of the course:
  • What new space for living opens up when you deepen your somatic presence?
  • What new somatic competencies can be developed to support this?
  • What new practices and support are necessary to develop these competencies?
Over a five-month period together, we will be integrating principles and practices from yoga, qigong, mindfulness meditation, somatic psychology, the biology of cognition, as well as existentialism and phenomenology into our inquiry and practice.

We invite you to work with program leader Steve March, who will be joined by adjunct faculty members Julie Manga and Christy Moses. The session dates are as follows:
  • August 1, 2, & 3
  • October 11 & 12
  • December 6 & 7
Times: 9am - 6pm (Except August 1, which is 7:30-10 pm only)
