Conference Theme
 As the
Irish economy comes to terms with the economic devastation of the past eighteen
months, focus has begun to shift towards those areas that may offer a path to recovery. A number of issues have come to fore in
these discussions. Firstly, it is
evident that there is an urgent need for Ireland to assert its position on the
world stage particularly in those economies that will be first to emerge from
the current crisis. Secondly, Ireland's
cultural landscape remains one of its strongest assets and will play a key role
in the country's re-emergence on the world stage. Thirdly, time is of the essence - effective solutions are
required urgently. With their high
profile, adaptability and international outlook, festivals are ideally placed
to respond.
The 2009 conference
will focus on the festival sector's role in Ireland's recovery. We will look at how we can work
together effectively, our role in promoting Ireland internationally and how we
measure success in changed circumstances.
