 Celebrate Your Child & Yourself!
For many, the holiday season is a time for celebrations. In this article we are focusing on taking a look at how we celebrate ourselves and our children.
In our book, Discover Your Child's Learning Style, we present the C.A.R.E.S. principles, and the first letter - C - stands for Celebrate Your Child. What do we mean by that?
Celebrate your children for who they are, NOT for the quality or quantity of their school work. Get into the habit of pointing out what is RIGHT about your children. Encourage them to pay attention to their own positive characteristics and actions, to their interests, talents, and accomplishments.
Compare these two sets of comments:
When are you going to get it right?...Well, if there's a way to mess it up you'll find it...You're so clumsy...I know you'll lose it...You'll probably forget like you always do...
Wow, thanks for remembering to pick that up...I noticed you put your ring in a safe place...Thanks for helping your brother...That was tricky and you managed to get it done...I admire your willingness to do a few math problems even though you really dislike math...
If children live with the first set of comments, it's not a big surprise if they themselves say things like: I'm so clumsy...I'll lose it for sure...I can't do it...I never finish things, that's just the way I am...
Children who live with the second set of comments learn to be confident and to pay attention to what they do right. You are liable to hear them say things like: Well, it's hard but I can try it...Next time I'm going to do it this way...Maybe I can make a plan so that doesn't happen again...I know I can do it...I did it!
Remember that school is not life. In the end, in the real world, it won't matter whether your child conquered dangling participles or still doesn't get Algebra...what will matter is whether your child believes in himself, whether she is confident about her own abilities and what she CAN do.
So now, how about you? How do you celebrate yourself? Do you acknowledge your many daily accomplishments? Do you focus on your strengths, talents, and gifts?
You can be a model for your children by celebrating yourself and them. In this way you are being a LearningSuccess™ Coach that brings out the stars that are shining inside!

High School for Career & Life Launch!
We are excited to tell you about a new model for high school students.
Did you ever wish that you could have chosen the courses that appealed to you in high school - courses that focused on your interests, talents, career goals - topics that were exciting to you?
How about your kids? Would they like a high school like that?
Most people do not know that this is possible! If your kids are miserable and suffering in high school (even home school high school) then think about this option.
We are now working with students who are focusing on their interests in fashion, cooking, engineering, drama and the arts, and many other areas. Their high school programs revolve around these interests. Their programs include internships and mentorships, work experience, and volunteering. Skills in areas such as writing or math are included as needed and in ways that work for their learning styles. A big part of their programs is exploring their career goals and figuring out how to get there.

 The LearningSuccess Homeschool Program
The LearningSuccess Institute is registered as a private school in California. We offer a full elementary through high school program, and students receive a high school diploma.
