What's Happening at Headwaters!
Spring at last! One more thing to celebrate at next week's Allies for Justice Celebration. Just a few days remain to get your tickets, so I hope you will act today, because we want to see you there!
Allies for Justice and some other really incredible events are the focus of this quarter's newsletter-- including a Social Justice Scavenger Hunt and the start of a Social Justice Leadership Institute this fall. Read on for more details.
We are also in the final countdown to the end of our fiscal year (June 30), which coincides with our Social Change Fund grant round. If ever there was a time when your dollars went right to work, this is it. Every dollar we raise between now and the middle of June goes right back out the door to an amazing group of grassroots organizations. Please consider making a gift this month to support social change year-round. We need your help to make sure the organizations we support have the resources they need to do their work .
Finally, I want to share an important article with you on diversity in philanthropy. Published by the MN Council of Foundations, it features the perspective of our own David Nicholson. You can read the article here.

Events:
Spirituality and Activism
Monday, June 6 / 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. / location tbd
What sense of meaning and purpose undergirds your activism? What spiritual practices, traditions, and communities support and sustain your work? How does your activism inform and expand your spirituality or faith? Join with other activists exploring the intersections of spirituality and social action and the personal and professional aspects of spirituality and public life. This is not a presentation but an opportunity to dialogue with other progressives to deepen our understanding and insights into the role of spirituality in our call for justice in the world.
This gathering is being hosted in collaboration with the Center for Public Ministry at United Theological Seminary. The Center was launched in October 2010 by Steven Newcom, past Headwaters ED, and is an outgrowth of his Bush Foundation Leadership Fellowship which focused on the intersection of theological education and social justice ministry. The mission of the Center is to Advance the theory and practice of social justice ministry as a practical theological discipline and a core ministerial competency.
Collective Visioning: How Groups Can Work Together to Create a Just and Sustainable World
Thursday, June 9 / 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. /
True Colors Bookstore / 4755 Chicago Ave S, Mpls
All of us want a future that's promising and a way to get there. For decades, activists and community groups have worked to create equitable solutions. Why then are so many of us disappointed at the results? Organizers often fall short in creating groups in which people of all backgrounds feel comfortable speaking up. And while progressives are good at articulating what they're against, they have a tougher time getting specific about what they're for-creating a positive, energizing vision.
Join Linda Stout, a lifelong agent of social justice, in discussing her book Collective Visioning, which introduces a process designed to ensure that all voices are heard, an inspiring vision of the future is agreed on, and an action plan is developed that leverages everyone's diverse talents and abilities. Used successfully by over 120 organizations, it creates hope for change among those who've stopped believing change is possible. Click here for further information.
Ice Cream Social Justice
Thursday, July 14 / 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

P.S. In case of rain no worries--we'll stay dry under the picnic shelter! |
