Connections
American Water Resources Association (AWRA) Newsletter
Greetings!
Happy Water New Year!Did you do anything fun to celebrate? Canoe down a river? Watch the sun set over the ocean? The Hydrophiles of OSU (an AWRA student chapter) hosted a wonderful day long event for members and community and the NJ-AWRA state section held their annual Water New Year's Eve celebration and award ceremony. October also brings two important AWRA deadlines: Spring Conference abstract deadline, October 9th; and Annual Conference Early-bird deadline, October 22nd. The month also marks the beginning of our annual membership renewal cycle. Several of you may have already received a renewal notice via email. This renewal request is for the upcoming 2013 membership year. If you have any questions or did not receive an email notice, but would like to, please contact me (Christine) at [email protected]. This is also a great time to consider first-time membership or a return to AWRA. Exciting things are happening at AWRA and we don't want anyone to be left out. Membership has it benefits, among them are discounted publications and conference registrations; access to JAWRA, the leading journal in the water resources field; access to our bi-monthly magazine Water Resources IMPACT and professional development through our career center and multiple conferences and events offering CEUs. This truly is an influential time to be working in water resources education, research and management, for out of difficulty and crisis come some of the most creative and innovative solutions. In everything we do, AWRA strives to facilitate these solutions. You can be a part of the solutions, too. What better way to start the Water New Year? Join us!
Until next time, Christine McCrehinEditor, Connections

AWRA Member Participation Sought for Survey
The Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc. Needs Assessment Survey: Translating Research into Practice
As a practitioner, you know that there is a critical need to improve the use and management of water resources as society faces the dual challenges of population growth and climate change. Hydrologic research is essential to such improvement.
The Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Sciences, Inc. has commissioned this survey so that your experience, and ideas about research needs, can contribute to hydrologic research being translated into practice to address water resource management challenges.
We appreciate your taking about 15 minutes to complete this survey. Your comments will remain anonymous and be compiled with those of other respondents into a summary. As a thank you for your time, after completing the survey, you can enter to win a new iPad using the link provided at the end of the survey.
