"Why can't we get all the people together in the world that we really like and then just stay together?  I guess that wouldn't work.  Someone would leave.  Someone always leaves.  Then we would have to say good-bye.  I hate good-byes."

~Charles M. Schulz

Dear   ,

Today is my last day at AWRA.  And, like Charles Schultz, I also hate goodbyes.  But, I couldn't leave this wonderful place without saying goodbye to you all, so I am sending you this month's Connections a few days early.

I have enjoyed the past six years here at AWRA immeasurably, in large part because of my daily interactions with you all.  I will miss that.  Thank you for the work you are doing, the research you are conducting, and the students you are teaching.  Thank you for showing this marketing geek with an interest in water just how important water is to every aspect of life, and how complex it is.  And, thank you for the difference you are making in the multifaceted and difficult issues facing water resources professionals every day:  emerging contaminants, water quality, water supply, water policy,  hydraulic fracturing, climate change impacts, wetlands restoration, stormwater management, floodplain management to name but a few.

In fact, right now, there are bunches of you dealing with the flooding along the Mississippi, and bunches more watching the developments with great interest.  We've included some very informative links in this issue to help you follow the story.

I have to watch you all from the sidelines now, but I will be watching.

Garrison Keillor's sign off seems appropriate, so I will steal it:
Be good.  Do good work.  Keep in touch.

P.S. The randomly selected winner from the last month's challenge participants is D. Powers.  Your AWRA stainless steel water bottle is on its way to you! Thanks to everyone who sent in their personal definition of Integrated Water Resources Management!  You can see them here.

The Endocrine Disrupter Exchange (TEDX)

TEDX is pleased to announce that the TEDX List of Potential Endocrine Disruptors is now available on our website (www.endocrinedisruption.org).  Every chemical on the TEDX List has one or more verified citations to published, accessible, primary scientific research demonstrating effects on the endocrine system. There are approximately 800 chemicals currently on the TEDX List, which will be updated regularly as new studies are published and prior research is uncovered for endocrine disruptors not yet on the list.

FracFocus

FracFocus is the hydraulic fracturing chemical registry website. This website is a joint project of the Ground Water Protection Council (an organization whose members are state regulatory agencies) and the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission (a multi-state government agency).  On this site you can search for information about the chemicals used in the hydraulic fracturing of oil and gas wells, educational materials designed to help you put this information in perspective, and a tool that helps you locate wells near you.
