Keeping You Connected

March 2010

Dear :

"...and the rare and beautiful AWRA t-shirt goes to H. Sangireddy." Terry Meyer

Eighteen people joined AWRA during the open period for the AWRA Rare & Beautiful T-Shirt!  Thanks, everyone, for playing ... and thanks especially for joining!  Our randomly selected winner will be receiving the t-shirt shortly.

I don't know how active a participant you are in the social media craze -- you know, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter -- but everyone is telling us to jump on the bandwagon, and open these lines of communication with you.  So, AWRA has dipped its toe into the wild frontier:

Find us on LinkedIn
Find us on Facebook
(or search for American Water Resources Association at either site)

We even had an official tweeter (thanks, Lorri!) at the just concluded AWRA Spring Specialty Conference on GIS & Water Resources!  You can check out the twitterfeed (is that what it's called?) on Twitter using #AWRA2010.  Lorri's been tweeting some excellent content, so check it out.  We'll be using this same "hatch mark" for all our upcoming conferences, so make a note and follow along ... even if you can't make it.

We look forward to "seeing" you in this new frontier!

An AWRA Specialty Conference on tropical hydrology was last held in 1998, and it's time to focus our attention on this important issue once again.  This conference on Tropical Hydrology & Sustainable Water Resources in a Changing Climate will build on previous conferences to discuss the topic in light of a changing climate.  We will consider issues such as water supply, sustainable water planning, water quality, alternative water supplies, and coastal ecosystems.

Opportunities Abound for Recognition & Service at AWRA!
nominations

"What every genuine philosopher (every genuine man, in fact) craves most is praise - although the philosophers generally call it 'recognition'!" ~ William James

The AWRA Call for Nominations for the 2010 AWRA Awards is online now.  AWRA State Sections and Student Chapters may submit their entries for AWRA Outstanding State Section and Student Chapter Awards.  AND, information about AWRA's Richard A. Herbert Memorial Scholarships has been posted on our website, too.  Here are the relevant links for more information:

More information about AWRA's awards can be found here.

Remembering that, as the Latin proverb goes ... "It is the greatest possible praise to be praised by a man who is himself deserving of praise," take a few minutes to check out all the opportunities for recognition, think of your colleagues and how they have advanced water resources over the course of their careers, and submit a nomination in the appropriate category.  And, forward the scholarship information to the students you know.
