New Opportunities for Women
in Takaungu:

A Nutrition Clinic at Vutakaka

The health department at Vutakaka held a series of nutrition workshops for women in the community.  Nutrition experts from the Ministry of Health attended the trainings and added valuable information.

The women were taught the importance of staying healthy during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and shown how to make a nutritious porridge for young children using local foodstuffs.  Attendance was great and we look forward to continuing these sessions!

Community Health Unit Launch!

The Kenyan government's Community Health Unit in Takaungu was officially launched on June 23rd.  We were honored to have the top health official of Kilifi District, Dr. Mulewa, give a speech to the 50 volunteer Community Health Workers who will be serving the area.

 CHU launch

The EAC is proud to be a sponsor of the new health initiative and excited to continue our partnership with the Ministry of Health. This partnership will ultimately result in greater access to better healthcare and health education to Takaungu and its surrounding areas.

Intern Spotlight - Alina Kostreba
Alina arrived in Takaungu on May 30th and has been hard at work ever since.  She has been observing both our clinic and the government clinic in order to write a report on health services in the Takaungu area. The EAC will use this report to guide future programming in health, and rectify gaps in services.  She is also teaching a nutrition class to Grade 4 students in 4 local schools and helping with our annual student health check-up at Vutakaka Junior School.

Alina

Thanks for all your hard work Alina!
