Dear EAC Community,
This upcoming year is an important landmark for our organization as it is our 10 year anniversary of working together in Takaungu, Kenya. In the past decade, we have become an essential part the community and helped to transform the lives of thousands.
The people of Takaungu have come to rely on us to ensure mothers remain healthy through their pregnancies, to provide an education that will enable their children to actualize their dreams, and to be there when the times are tough.
We are so proud and humbled by you, our partners, in this important endeavor and hope you will join us for the next 10 years.
We feel a great responsibility not only to meet the needs of this community, but to exceed their expectations. We know that every service the EAC provides increases the chances that the women, children and men of Takaungu will step out beyond poverty, and enjoy lives full of integrity, choice, laughter and love.
If you have any questions, I am always available via email or phone. ASANTE SANA for your continued interest in the community of Takaungu and the EAC! Jen Hill EAC US Program Director jhill@eastafricancenter.org (347) 330-2670

Farm Update
Class 7 Students Contribute To Our First Vutakaka Farm
| | |
This is our first year planting our back three acres at Vutakaka Junior School. With limited time and funding, we are planting a test farm to get ready for the big launch next year.
One acre of maize and beans have already been planted, and our class 7 students have started seedlings for a small garden of tomatoes, onions, eggplants, ocra, and watermelons.
Our first corn sprouts
The students are studying compost in their science class and have made two different types (above-ground and underground compost) and will test the different vegetable seeds with and without compost and other fertilizers.
We are looking forward to a big harvest after the rainy season. Good job Class 7 and a big thank you to Emily who is helping with the farm, and Katana, Kenga, and Kahindi who have been working hard in the hot sun!
To sponsor next year's farm, please contact jhill@eastafricancenter.org. |

Saturday, May 7th, we held our annual Evening for Africa at the downtown Seattle Hilton. The 3rd annual event was the best yet! Over 140 guests came together to raise $28,050 for the organization. The night was filled with fun and laughter.

Class 6 and 7 VJS students contributed art and photos to our auction, helping to decorate the room and raise money for their school. The students painted on big pieces of traditional fabric, and went around their village in groups taking photos. We have some budding artists and photographers at our school! You can check out photos of the evening here and please enjoy this film that was made by Taylor Janes and John Burkhart of Shovel Ready Productions that debuted at the auction.
